The viscous coupler is crappin out in my grand cherokee (I know..big friggin suprise there ). Has anyone had this repair done in or near Raleigh for a reasonable price by someone they'd recommend?
Thanks,
madby
I'm not sure the best place to get them replaced, but they aren't tough to repair yourself?
You are gonna need to pop the drive shafts, seperate the tcase from the transmission, and then go to town.
If you have a 249, here is a writeup? http://www.masoncomputing.com/np249/
I thought about that but I don't really have a place to work on it or much of a toolset to speak of anymore. I've found a few write ups on swapping the 242 tc instead so I'm thinking about that too.
Maybe less than a case.
After a case I don't think I should operate a bottle opener, much less air tools.
Now a pneumatic beer opener, THAT might be fun to deal with after a case or two.
I picked up a 242 from a 98 on ebay. I'm not sure when it will be here yet but from what I've been able to find, it's not quite the same as the standard 242/249 swap that's written up on several sites. The input may not need to be swapped, but I may have to trim .5" off the yoke on the driveshaft. Just depends, I've seen people say it bolted right up and others say that had to use a grinder to trim the yoke down. Guess I'll find out....
Thanks for the offer cperry. I think hscrugby and I are gonna swap it out. He lives right around the corner and was kind enough to offer as well. Now it's just a matter of getting the darn ebay seller to answer my emails and tell me when it's going to ship. I hate dealing with unresponsive sellers.
