I just purchased (saved lol) a 1995 xj. I have gone through it and done a complete tune up. She runs like a top. She needs some more tlc but we will get there. Here's my problem, some "very smart person" has done a real Uncle Jerry job on the heater control box and has stripped radio. I plan to take her to get a new sound system anyway, but the heater control box is just sitting in there. It isn't hooked up to anything. All the "guts" are gone. But looking at the wiring for it, it looks cooked and melted. I'm not a electrical engineer by any means. My question is can even a shop fix it so we have heat and air again ? Is there a aftermarket parts ? Any recommendations for a shop that does good work on these jeeps ?

Any help, helps.

Thanks

-John

Yeah here they are. Sorry about that.

What is your location? I have a 95 I'm parting out and the dash is still there. Come help pull what you need and bring a 6 pack of a local IPA. My jeep is at my office in Hartsville, SC.

Well I've got to figure out how to get heat into it. That's a wonderful offer. But unfortunately I can't travel that far at the moment. Between work and kids. But definitely thank you. I'm in reidsville, nc

If you have a local pull-a-part/lkq, im sure they have multiple XJs. Id go and take out the dash and heater box and everything. Then you can replace it all, or just what is needed.

Also, unless the harness is toast, if you can tune it up, you can install a radio.

Most yards around me don't have the older xj stuff and dash is different on the 97 up.

I cannot tell in your pictures is the heater core in the HVAC box? Are you mainly trying to replace wiring and vacuum stuff? Again I can't tell from your pictures what is going on there.

John, I'm your Wentworth neighbor and I have a couple XJ's here at my house. If this crappy weather breaks I'd be happy to have you come by one evening to see if anything on them could be useful to you.
Hey that's great. Thank you. Deffently a life saver.

I'll take better pictures when I get home. But the radio is gone. From what I can tell all wires are still there for it. The heat control box is just kinda there. No screws it's not connected to anything. There is the wire that plugs into the back. It looks like it's 3 prong ? It's melted. Cooked like Thanksgiving bird. But I'll take pictures when I get off.

When you say heater control box are you referring to the HVAC control panel or the HVAC box that is behind the dash?

The box on the dash looks like someone took a flat head and for whatever reason busted the switch off. Then behind it, it looks like it has been gutted. The pices I can see from a google image search and then what I can see with my eyes, to me, it looks like it's gone. For instance, on google search it says there's a cable that runs off back. This one the cable has been cut. The cable is there but it's only about 6 inches long with a clean cut end. I'm used to wjs so when the wife said hey I seen this I like it. I jumped in the wj and brought it home. That's my knowledge of the xj lol. The engine is strong. Has a few leaks. But I can't beat the price i paid for it. Anyway I so appreciate all the help. It's so refreshing to see the off-road community is still strong. Here's a picture of our "fleet" lol. Like i said I'll post better pictures of what's going on with the xj once I can get home.

Ok looks like you need the controler and harness that is behind the dash. That is typical of those to melt like that. I've parted dozens of xj's of that era and they do that. The cable goes to the blend door or one of the actuators on the HVAC box. I can't remember what it controls. I have all that in my 95. I'll try and get some pictures when it's not raining this weekend. 84 - 95 dash is mostly the same. In 96 they added the air bag and Chrysler column and dash changed. In 97 the whole thing changed. Will message you my number. I might have some parts I need up your way.

If the amcjeepman doesn't have what you need. Closest junk yard is probably Richard Branch's place on Gibbs Rd. I can't remember the name but there is a massive yard in the Draper part of Eden.
