Feeling kicked in the nuts by life lately, mostly financially, it been one F'n thing after onother this past year...but enough crying..

And now our F'n A/C quit cooling. Did some googling and poked around, but all I managed to figure out was I dont know what the f I am doing.

Anyone care to share any diagnostic tips?

whats it doing?
fan blows just not cool?
what part of charlotte you in?

Yes, fan blows, seems to turn on/run, but not cooling.

Seemed to have more trouble keeping up tha usual last year also....

Southwest charlotte(Steele Creek) near hwy 49/160.

have you checked for a bad capacitor?

with todays heat snap its very possibe my buddy owns an HVAC company and said he has changed about 10 today already...they cost <$20 if you go buy them, about $150 off a repair man

How to check for bad cap?

1. Is the Compressor Fan at the heat pump kicking on?
2. Are the coolant lines or radiator on the heat pump icing up?
3. Is there air flow at the vents in the house?

Is your only symptom that the house is just not cooling off?

I've had issues with my old unit over the past couple of years. it sucks and you always find out on the hottest or the coldest of days.

Is it icing up? if so turn it off till thaws then try again mine just stopped i looked it up and thawed it worked fine next day! they say since strange weather patterns we have lately its causing a/c units to do this!!! im no hvac guy tho just take shit apart and try and make it work!!!

that's the latest thing that happened to me.

Ends up my freon was down to about 53lbs ( apparently under 55lbs and this happens) coupled with a filter that was dirty/ high filtration was causing less airflow and the coil turned to a block of ice.

Defrosted it, and a buddy charged the system for me and swapped the filter out seems to have remedied it all for me.

Yeah i was hoping it was that easy for him some ppl can still get "real" freon and refill yourself its pretty straight forward after researching for a day or two lol hope it works out for you man!

How to check for bad cap?
The capacitor will usually bulge out somewhere(typically the bottom) when it's no good.
-Make sure the outdoor unit condenser fan is running.
-Feel the suction line (bigger of the two) should be cool
-Check your filters/ replace
-Look inside at the evaporator coils for ice buildup if the compressor is working
-Check your condensate drain line. If backed up can cause ice buildup on evaporator coils
