I just got a PS3 for Christmas, and this thing is awesome. Love being able to play Blu Rays. My question is, How much is the HDMI cables needed? I heard they really enhance the graphics, but before I drop $50, I want to know how they really are. Also, what do they hook up to? I know one end goes into the console, but where does the other end go?

On a related note, is anybody running a PC monitor as a TV?
Idea being you use the cable box for the tuner, plug in some powered speakers. i have a cheapy 22" that seems ideal for a small space. Guess I'll need an HDMI-to-DVI converter?

You got it. Just get you a converter and you're set. Works like a charm. You'll need to run your audio with a separate cable of course. (digital coax/tos link if available.) There might even been some hdmi - dvi adapters that have an audio adapter built in.

x5 on monoprice.. wired the entire theater with speaker wire, optical, coax, HDMI, and IR from them.. Spent about $450, and would have been raped for ~1500 by any electronics store...

The TV in my room is not HD, but the Computer in the living room is HD, but it already has an HDMI cable going from the TV to our digital cable box. Do I need to un hook the HDMI cable from the back of the box and then hook to the PS3?

If you'd like to see how the PS3 looks on HDMI then just unhook the HDMI cable you're using for your cable box and plug it into the PS3. If you like the quality then you will want to order another HDMI cable from monoprice so you can run two HDMI devices.(Cable and PS3)

You should have at least 2 HDMI hookups on your HDTV. If not then you'll need an HDMI switch. (Also available at monoprice) I'd recommend reading the manual that came with your HDTV. They are usually pretty good at explaining how to control two HDMI devices.

Here are some additional links to educate yourself about HDMI:

Hm, interesting idea - I was going to just run the analog audio out (red/wh RCA) into an an 1/8" adapter and use some powered PC speakers, no reven mess w/ an amp.
Sp[litting off the HDMI is an interesting idea though - is that audio signal embedded in the HDMI analog or digital?

Ah Nevermind, I see it's a digital audio signal. Can't really use that, will have to rely on the old-skool RCAs.

Yes, to answer your question. If you don't want to buy a cable, but there is probably more than one HDMI port on the tv if you want to hook them both up and just changes channels instead of hooking and unhooking the cable.

The PS3 is the best DVD player I've ever owned. Lol The 360 is best game console I've ever owned. I'm running them both on HDMI and there's not really any difference in the graphics.
