How can I repair a copper transmission line without taking it off the vehicle. It has a small pin hole. I would also like not to catch my Jeep on fire! Any advice would be appreciated.

If there's a Pin hole, I'd be wondering if there were other pin holes about to occcur, and if I needed to replace the Line. As you said, you don't want to burn your Jeep! One Copper Line is cheaper than One Jeep.

No there are not any other holes.......I was welding on my exhaust pipe and accidently hit the line with the welding rod.

I didnt realise steel line was that cheep! $10?

But the copper line has been fine other than that one hole and that was my fault. What problems may I run into in the future?

Yo there,
You may be able to utilize a MAP gas cylinder (yellow color) from Lowes/HD and braze the hole with a small brazing rod. I believe the AC technicians braze copper lines with MAP gas and not acetylene. Solder is too soft and melts at too low a temperature for safety. Fluid outbound from the pump to the radiator is much lower in pressure than internally and I believe it will be no more than 60 psi. Be sure to shine that copper with very fine sand paper and flux the spot for a good bond. Down side is that to buy all of these items may exceed the price of a new line. See what the dealer wants for a new part.

My $0.02

Well the line is a home made setup. I dont think the dealer would have a cooler line for an 83 CJ7 with a straight 6 and a 727 automatic. I dont think I can put any kind of flame to the leak.......wont the tanny fluid catch on fire?

Small hose clamp and a piece of rubber from an old tire tube.
