Anybody here sell/install car alarms?

The ones that have the '2-way' paging....Viper says like one mile...what is the realistic number?? I figure that's the optimum, line of site, with the wind sales number.

I had one of the first generation 2 way alarms. The distance was much better than a regular alarm ,but a mile is pushing it. Its line of sight, if there are any obstructions it will not work as well. It was great though, I could park at the back of a fairly large parking lot, walk to the window of my office building and start my Jeep. By the time i walked to it, it was already warm or cold.

all depends on location, other junk in the airwaves ect. What kind of range are you wanting? Viper offers the smart start system that uses your smartphone and you can ck status anywhere. Let me know if you need more info. The newer directed electronics units do work much better than the 1st gens. I would say average would be half mile or maybe more.

Since we are discussing car alarms,I am curious about inside motion sensors for Jeeps? What if you park it with the top off? Will people walking by upset it?I would love to have something that I could leave the top off my Jeep when it was warm out and not have to worry about it the entire time I am in the store.

they will work, but it takes patience to get them adjusted properlly. Most installers just stash them and hope for the best. The DEI ones will have 2 stage triggers on them, a warn away and instant trigger, the key is to have them adjusted to work together. I have installed hundreds of them in jeeps and convertible cars throughout the year.

That's awesome.I think that's what I need.I understand that someone determined enough is gonna get in if they want(I install home Security).I just something to let them know they are gonna deal with the siren if they want my CD player.

It will def stop the kids from messin with it. Just remember it will work through plastic or upholstery but not anything metallic.

For a tool trailer. Worst case, can be 1500-2000 feet away, but inside.

Probably 20 years ago, my CJ had an old RatShak car alarm that had a pager. It had pretty good range. Someone cut the lock on my console (ammo can)...that alarm box was the only thing I've ever had stolen from a car. That's all they took.

I guess the ones that go to your smart phone have a monthly service/access fee? How much???

the first year is included in the price after that i think its 29 per year. ck out viper.com or python.com, both are dei units that will serve you well. I think you will be fine with that range though.
