Dana 44, rear, Jeep-sized....about how much would it weigh on a pallet?
Trying to help someone I'm buying from estimate the cost, but I can't find how much a 44 weighs.

A D35 is about 135lbs and a D60FF is a large bit over 200lbs, but I could still pick mine up, so probably under 300lbs.

A D44 I would guess around 200lbs complete on a heavy day. Add another 25 for packaging materials, and another 25 for CYA, call it 250lbs for the quote, but realistically I would venture 210lbs packaged for shipping.

yes forward air, its the cheapest, just band it, and wrap it to a pallet, about 225 to 275 depending on the pallet, ask for stephanie in greensboro, you can call, and they can give you an estimate, just know the locations, you can check online to see their locations where they go.

I sent a 44 front to CA for around $250-300 via forward air. Don't remeber the weight but it wasn't light. I also palleted it up myself.
Why was it so much? I just had a complete engine (SBC) shipped from Texas on Estes and it was just a little over 100 bucks. Like 115 or less.

Is the extra cost because a rear end is wider?

I disagree with FA according to my last purchase. After you get your FA quote, get ahold of FREIGHTQUOTE.COM. The deal with every Commercial Freight available and even give you a discount on top of the company you choose's rate. They were about half as much as FA on my last purchase. FA said their rates went up dramatically. This was around New Years this year. And they go out of the way too.
My rate was $300 for 1200 pounds from Maine to Sanford, NC. with Roadway Yellow Freight was a tad cheaper but their local terminal was in Charlotte. I'm in Raleigh.

Freightquote kicks Forward Air's little ass any day...:flipoff2:

I had a dana 44 and a 727 trans shipped from maine for $175 from forward air.

I ship things every day from work. Forward air would be the best for this type of shipment for someone who does not ship all the time and have accounts set up with truck companys. Expect to pay 150 to 300 dollars.
