Ive been looking at pop up campers the last couple weeks on craigslist. I sent 9 emails 7 days ago to sellers and have only heard back from one. I really don't want to spend more than $1k, which narrows it down a lot.
I really want one with AC, and the bigger the better.
A friend of a friend is selling this one....

It's a 93 Jayco. As you can see it has AC. He says it's about 25ft extended and 12 1/2' when folded down, which seems pretty big for a pop up.
I don't know much else about it but I'm supposed to get some interior pictures tomorrow.
He said canvas is in good shape and there are no leaks, but that a lift cable is broken in one of the corners. Is that a fix as simple as changing the cable?
What else should I ask the seller? He is 3.5 hrs away but only asking $1,000. Is that a good price? I'm planning on buying it.

That was a pretty popular pop-up in it's day. It's the 120x series. I've got a 1205 with a toilet and shower. It's not quite a hi-wall, but the walls are taller than most. That's nice for counter height, but makes it harder to get in/out of bed, espeically if you're short. Not a big deal, though. Be careful of AC on an older unit like that. Often, the weight of the unit will cause the roof to sag and collect water, eventually getting into the wood and rotting it out. So see if you can pull some trim away from around it and poke around. If it's rotten, might as well run away. If it's good, then it's got potential. The cable should be available and fairly easy to replace yourself. Most shops don't like to do them, and they're time-consuming, but it's just a matter of getting it through all the tubes and pulleys, then getting the length right. You should be able to find info on how to do it on one of the pop-up forums. Popupexplorer and popupportal would be places to look. The awning is a nice addition, too. At that price, though, I'd try to work him down some. I've seen them in similar conditon going for under a grand. You can get a nice one for $2500 or less. Oh, and that's a pretty heavy camper for it's size. It's pretty well insulated for a popup, but that one probably weighs over 2k loaded. My 87 Suburban knows when I'm towing mine!

I wouldn't say that, necessarily. My Burb's a little long in the tooth, and the extra tanks and whatnot on mine add weight. If you're looking for a big popup, that's a good choice. The only way you're going to get much more room is to go with a Coleman with a side slide, but then you're talking money. For the price, it's worth a look, as long as it doesn't leak.

I don't think the camper part is 12'. Looks more like 8' to me, maybe when you add in the tongue length you will have 12'. I have a 95 pretty much the same as what you have there. No bath, no potty, no shower, no holding tank. IT does have a sink, and a two burner stove that folds down into the floor to transport. We opted to take it out and use the floor room for extra camping stuff.Mine weighs in around 1300 lbs.
The AC unit will keep nice and cool even in extreme heat, but the heater only has one heat strip so it is marginal. An added 1500W ceramic heater makes it pretty comfortable.
The mattresses are not too comfortable either. I really want to replace mine with some foam that is more dense. Factory ones you lay down and you feel the board, does not offer any loft at all.
I can get(or rather Leslie can) get extra blankets, pillow, sheets, two camping chairs, out black box with dishes and so on, EZ up, and much more, about everything except the cooler.

That one's a 12 footer, I promise. It sits on larger tires than an 8 foot, but smallish rims, so perception is decieving. I've got the same model. Also, Chip, the walls are significantly taller than yours, so take that into account too. It's got much thicker matresses than smaller popups and the galley doesn't have to fold to the floor to drop the top. There's still a lot you can do to make them more comfortable, though. And it probably wouldn't be the best platform to do a lifted expidition-style pup with, but they're nice units.

I don't see how you can go wrong with that deal.If you don't get it let me,we just bought one and now our neighbors are looking!
