U.S. ramps up Apple offensive with new filing in iPhone unlocking case

I'm with Apple on this one. Apple said that the software does not even exist. How should they be forced to CREATE it?

Apple don't want to loose sales to anyone, including ISIS. I think for anyone that can find a way to capitalize off of ISIS, more power to them. Even if lives are at stake, we deserve a right of privacy. I think the government needs to stay out of this. Just like when they had all our phone records from what that Snowden character revealed. THAT didn't go over very well...

And don't you think that any ISIS member that made communication with this phone can't toss his phone and just get a new one? And I'm sure any plans made with a voicemail to this phone I guarantee has had a change of plans by now.

I think it's just another stupid move from our GOA - Greater Obama Administration to waste tax dollars. I see no good in this at all. Or am I missing something here? It ain't like this shooter was any type of top ISIS dog. I think just another member wanting their share of 32 virgins in heaven in fear before they run out of them and they start to get all slutted out.

Yep been following it as well.

For any who support the governments right to access ask your self this: If the US gov't has right to force access, what about China? Russia? etc.
Or do we want to encourage Apple to move their HQ out of the US?

The phone absolutely belongs to the U.S. Govt now, so if the govt can hack it, have at it. But I side with Apple. I don't think Apple should give the govt any software because even if Apple gave them access to this one phone, they would be able to figure out how to use it on any phone.

Here is what I think could work. Apple agree to take custody of the phone, hack it in their facility with Apple engineers, and only give the data to the govt, no software. That way the govt doesn't have the keys to everyone's phone.

Awfully big stretch even for the terrible fucking government to push something like this with NO evidence to support that anything exists on the phone.

Yet another baseless powergrab attempt that will further undermine trust in the already fucking worthless govt.

every celebrity with an iphone has had their phone hacked and their nude selfies put on the internet.....

and the NSA wants to pretend it cant hack this one phone.

I don't think Apple should give the FBI the access. I'm not a tech wizard but why can't the FBI hand over the phone to Apple, they unlock it, give it back to the FBI, and say here it is. Apple has protected their technology, and the FBI has their single unlocked phone.

Fuck this corrupt government.

Totally agree. I'll take my chances with the terrorists, they're less of a threat to me than this govt IMO.

Unless you live in San Bernandino, Little Rock, Fort Hood, Boston, New York (the subway, not even talking about 911), garland, Los Angelos.

Did i miss any? that should be all the cities that have had terror attacks since 2002.

It wasn't the phones that were hacked, it was the "cloud"

The cloud can be accessed from any apple device but the info the Govt supposedly wants off the phone isn't things that would be in the cloud, text messages and contacts.

I think Apple should stand their ground. And people like our senator Richard Burr should be voted out of office for trying to take our liberties.

Go Gregg Brannon!!!

Yet another govco over reach attempt.
But the solution is stupid simple.
Hand the iphone to a teenage boy and tell him it has naked Taylor Swift pictures on it.
Problem solved in ten minutes!
Just sayin...

Hell im not a tech guy but if you tell me that it has Taylor Swift naked I'll figure it out!!

Taylor swift? Wouldn't waste my passcode on her, damn bean pole . Sofia vergara then I'm up for the code break challenge. :bounce2:

what happened to the subpeona process? push the carrier for the text message print outs. and isnt the contact list backed up in the cloud?

The FBI can't hand the phone over to Apple, Chan of Custody issues. If Apple was gong to hack the phone, there would have to be a gov rep there, and Apple wouldn't be able to hide the process...

The gov needs to forget having Apple do a hack there is just no way to do it without giving them the keys, And I don't want them to have the keys.

All that said, there are ways via hardware to get the information they want off that phone, as long as they don't trigger the erase protocols first, t would be expensive, but I'm OK with that, keep the hurdles high, and for a case like this, I don't mind the tax bill, if it helps catch terrorists and helps keep my rights against unlawful search and seizure.
