anyone live in raleigh that would be interested in putting on a budget lift on my 88xj? its going to be a budget lift (blocks/leafs/springs). also, how long do you think it would take (im thinking an all day saturday thing). anyway, figured id throw it out there, if anyone has tools and wants to mess around, (or even better, you know what youre doing), let me know.
thanks

are you asking for someone to install a set of steel lift blocks and a pair of coil springs?

do you need anything other than that done? I am in Smithfield and might be interested. pm what you are looking to get this done for ($$$)

hey ,thanks for the help guys. i actually live in apt.s near the western blvd./blue ridge intersection. i can keep the jeep here in the parking lot (lots of room to work), or i mean, if needed, i can drive it. its a great jeep (less than 20k on engine and transmission...replaced in '01).

to answer the above question, honestly, im not sure of what i want installed......this is what i need: something with better clearance b/c right now i have a like 235 tires on stock rims and it rubs a little...also bottoms out when on small trails. i dont need something massive, just high enough to get like 31's on it. and CHEAP....what do you guys suggest?
ive read about how we cant get bodylifts on xj's, but i can get the spacers or whatever. ive also looked into getting leafs from a junkyard. sorry to ramble, anyone that is interested in helping me, what do you suggest? thanks again

You can do V8 zj coil springs and 1 leaf from an s10 in each pack. That would sit maybe an inch and a half higher.

or you can get a 2" budget boost with front spacers and shackels for about 100 or so. Couple of different options actually.

LKQ is a good scrap yard down in garner, I was there earlier today and there were 2 v8 zj's

man, i passed by lkq to actually buy the jeep this week and immediately wanted to go in for a while...wife wouldnt let me...anyway, if i were to go there, what would i ask for if i wanted to get about a 3-4 inch lift? ALSO, if i was able to put on that high of a lift, do i have to change anythign else or can i just put it on and drive? (i mean as far as brakes, steering, etc) thanks again

try this link out, this is all you would need!!!!! and its VERY easy to install!!!

If you use all of the s10 leaf pack and your main leaves then you can get 4in of lift. but there is no way to do it with junkyard springs that I know of.

LKQ does not keep a parts inventory, you pay your $2 and go in hoping to find what you need, then you pull it your self.

I have an extra pair of 2" coil spring spacers you can have for $20. Then you will just need shackles for the rear. Let me know I'm in Raleigh.

Arupton,

I'm on spring break in 2 weeks, and I'd be happy to help you out, no charge. That'll give you time to get your parts together.

First thing you'll want to do is get a can of "PB Blaster" from Advance Auto Parts or somewhere similar, and spray anything that you might be removing. In your case, this will most likely be the u-bolts on the rear axle (holding the springs to the axle), front and rear leaf spring mounts (both sides of the shackle in the rear). In the front, you'll want to spray up the swaybar links to facilitate lowering the axle for ease of installation. Also, the coil spring retainer might need to be sprayed. Last thing might be the lower mount on all 4 shocks.

My suggestion for parts...from the junkyard V8 ZJ coils will give about 1" of lift. MJ shackles will give about 1" of lift.
You can also get spacers and shackles from vendors (like the RE stuff I showed you) in heights anywhere from 1/2" to 2".
Someone already mentioned Chevy S10 leaf springs. You can either use those or Dodge Dakota springs. Basically, you keep your XJ main leaf, and mix and match the remaining Dakota/S10 and cherokee leaves for the amount of lift you want. You can get as much as 4-5" this way.
If you keep it low for now, you won't have to worry about longer brakelines or shocks, etc.

hey guys, DLBRANDO: you can get those spacers he is offering, i am getting some from someone else.

everyone else, thank you so much for your help ,(especially tigerxj). i got some help from someone on the board who lives close to me. were going to be lifting it two weeks from now. thanks to everyone that has offered to help.

i am going to try and post pics of the xj tomorrow...its a great stock rig.

its an 88xj pioneer. 212k miles on body, 20k on engine, trans and exhaust. runs like a champ. its got 30's on it right now, but it rubs at full turn and i need a lift to start with because it bottoms out on smaller stuff now as it is.

i got this specifically to keep for building up and fun on the weekends so im sure ill be dumping some money into it.

if anyone has some information on what you think i should get in order of importance id greatly appreciate it. i know im getting this lift done and eventually bigger tires when the 30's get run down. ive already replaced the headliner with camo fabric from walmart (got the idea from the posts ive read about). anyone have any ideas of what i should be looking into?

thanks again for everyone's help, i love this site, you guys really know your stuff
