Anyone know where to buy a briggs engine?

Hey guys. I had an 8.5 HP vertical shaft Briggs engine on my mower. Unfortunately, I ran it low on oil while mowing a steep incline, and fried the sucker.

I'm looking for some place that sells them used around Asheville. Craigslist has nothing. Iwanna has nothing. Ebay has stuff, but you're looking at $50 for shipping. And all the dealers want $300+ for a new one. I know there's a good engine sitting in someone's garage right this moment, but I just don't know who that someone is.... Any suggestions?

Is there a Northerntool,or Tractor Supply close by?Either 1 should have whatever your looking for.

Here's the problem: is it an electric start model? I need manual start (my mower isn't set up for electro). Does it have a pull-cord?

im sure i can find one for it...hell we have a commercial walk behind with a 15horse pullstart....the top of the engine is the same except for a bolt on grill type deal that houses the pullcord etc
 
Redneckjeep87, I've had a few local guys contact me w/ engines to sell. So I'm going to try and go that route first. I'll let you know if anything pans out. My wife's been pushing me to dump this lawnmower for months now, and I'll never hear the end of it if I drive a 4-hour round trip to get an engine for it. Not that I won't just up and do it, but I'd rather exhaust my local options before I load the complaint cannon for her.
 
look around at pricing and get back to me...it would be a GREAT excuse to take a beach trip to wilmington for the weekend lol....."Hey sweetheart do you want to go to the beach for the weekend.....ok but we have to stop and drop off my briggs first" HAHA....actually she would rather me get rid of it....i keep almost hurting myself on lawnmowers lol
