I'm thinking about going this route for my hydroboost / steering lines instead of getting the local line shop to make a set of custom lines. I feel like this will give me some flexibility down the line should I need it.
I don't see a problem with it as long as everything is capable of holding up to enough PSI. Even if your power steering hydraulic system only pushes out 1200, I would go with 2,000 rated just to be safe.
Now that I think about it, I have built a high-pressure steering hose on a 6.0 buggy I had one time. It had a PSC high-performance steering pump and a basic factory TJ box. It held up very well but it cost me more to build it than it did to have one made.
Aeroquip on the left, hydraulic crimp on the right.
The left is doable by yourself and field repairable......provided you have tools and goods. A vice is almost a necessity.
(edit very needed info.....if you're in the field you'll also need an abraisive cut off wheel, this hose much less any other requires it.)
They are great for one off odd stuff made right on the spot.
The limited number of lines, lenght, and fittings I personally would just carry spares.
If your like me making the lines yourself gets the exact fit and layout. Aeroquip does this well with one exception. The fittings are slightly bulkier. The biggest advantage is making them on my time table and not relying on a vendor and the fitting they have available at the time.
If you had a good contact with someone like Pirtek, they could come out to you. The advantage here: they could plumb front and rear steer plus your tractor before you could figure out all the fittings you need.
