I'm moving to Apex and won't have a barn or garage for a while. I started thinking about getting one of those metal carports that I see advertized for $595-695 installed. Then I thought about getting like 3 of them and putting them end to end, and adding sheetmetal on the long sides to make an enclosed "tube" I can park stuff in. I need to park my tractor, 72 Monte Carlo, 68 Skylark convertible... lots of cars I could park in there that I currently keep under a roof now, but will not have cover for when we move.
Does anyone on the board sell these carports, or recommend someone good? I thought I could save some money by putting it up myself, but all the do-it-yourself kits I have seen online cost more than the installed price of the local ones I see. Isn't that weird?
So I guess I could stack 3 of the local ones end-to-end for like $1800-$2100 installed, plus extra sheetmetal for the sides.
I'm looking to come up with like a 20x60-ish building. Will have gravel floor, not concrete.
I do not need doors on the end, do not need windows, and am not *too* worried about it structurally - it will never be a workshop or anything (I'm going to have a nice garage built later), just used for parking. I don't care that the openings are on the end so it will make it hard to get out the vehicles stored int he middle - the cars that I park in the middle will be the ones not running now or that I rarely drive (tractor will be parked on the end since I use it all the time).
Thanks!
Richard
