Someone tried to break into my gf's car again last night. A few weeks ago someone set the alarm off at 2am and I looked out the window to see a car driving off into the dark. This morning we found prints all over the door handles, trunk, and corners of the doors where they tried to pry the door back. I called the local PD and they wont send anyone out to take the prints since there was no damage to the car. I took a couple pictures and was wondering if there was any way someone could get these prints identified? Please help me out! Im going to have to start staying up at night watching our vehicles.

Good luck on that. Someone had come into my parents garage (no garage door installed) and taken a peice of wood to rip open the convertible top only to steal some CDs and a cell phone (which we found dumped down the road from our driveway). Cops came out, took a report, but wouldnt dust for finger prints. Whats the point of taking the report if you arent going to f/u on it? No offense to law enforcement but I have yet to see a cop go the extra mile... Except when they think you are guilty, find out you arent and now they have to do whatever they can to make you guilty and make themselves look legit.

Hope you get some results! Gotta hate a theif, even if nothing got stolen/damaged!

They look an awful lot like Whitey Bulger's ( oh sorry if your not from Boston you probably won't get the joke

Yeah I do.
Property crimes are not high on the totem pole for most police and sheriff depts.
We (depts) are over taxed already with the serious felony case loads and its not getting any better with the economy in the state that its in.
The district attorney's office is over burdend with cases and usually wont prosecute anyways ( especially in your case since there is no property lose).
I'm sorry you got victimized but I figured you would like to be told the hard truth about it.
Also one print looks smeared, and the other two look like partials or is that just the photo?

lol. i was born in falmouth. my uncle lives on nantucket @ surfside and swears he is still alive.

about taking a picture of the print. some departments have computer tech's that can transfer the digital image of the print and get a good enough match. some still just use the transfer method and scan it or take a still digital photo from a camera mounted in a lab.

you might be able to find a local PI that has a set of "forensic filters" and a high end DSLR. i could shoot the prints with my camera but the filters are what gives the ridge lines the details and a basic set of filters are around 1200$. best advice i can give. the reality is most cops are jackoff's and do as little as they can. hope you catch the pos you shoot them in head.

I understand all this, but if you caught this guy you would probably top more crime right?

Thats what I dont get. If we pursued every crime we would reduce crime...

takes alot of manpower to pursue every crime. crime is a strain on the system. Everyone always talks about how the cour system is just a money racket, but think if all the manhours that goes into prosecuting someone. the officers, the judges, the magistrates, the Atty. G's.

Yes, someone messed with your car. nothing was damaged, i cant say the person wont return, but if something spooked them off this time, chances are they wont return. So far there wasnt any crime to prosecute. maybe trespassing, but i doubt you have yor driveway lined in no trespassing signs.

i understand how uncomfortable it is to know how close you were to being violated. You wanna do everything in your power to prevent it from happening again.

unfortunatly the only thing you can do is park in a more secure fashion, i.e. lights, alarms, mean ass dogs.

I'm with Reid on this one (gasp), unfortunately for you (??), no crime has actually been commited here so it's not clear what you could/would do with the fingerprints anyway.

Someone has been opening cars in my area. Elderly folks on either side of me have gotten messed with in the last week. Dude was enough of a dumbass to leave a digital camera in the 96 y.o. lady's car. Who does she give it to..... nope, not the cops... her preacher!WTF. Dude came back looking for camera presumably, and broke into her car again. Whoever it is has a slim jim and knows how to use it. I suspect it is the same person who unlocked my truck back in december and stole my ash tray and my brand new insulated overalls. only sign of entry was slightly messed up rubber on bottom of drivers window.

3 entries in the last week in a row of 3 houses tempts me to hide in the shadows in my yard and wait for the dirty fuck to try it again.

Crime is up right now

And we all know why, I work in the Security Alarm industry. I have seen a lot more break and entering.

Seems that they are hitting more cars and storage building than houses.

If anyone needs suggestions or links to sites with decent equipment cameras, buzzers and such, just shoot me a PM.

My only point, Dave, is that criminals dont commit one crime and then retire.
If you pursue every lead and stiffly punish those caught you will actually you know PREVENT other crimes....

Are the cars inside a garage or outside? I had the same issue a while back. I went to Lowes and bought some really bright motion sensor flood lights. Crooks don't like being lit up in the middle of the night. The best thing you can do is take matters into your own hands to prevent it from happening again. They're looking for the easiest targets to hit. It's up to you to do what you can to not be that easy target.

its probably those screwy ass kids down the road....

I had some punks smash my windows in my jeep twice in one week, the cops came out the first time, but there was no evidence (they used a bat or something, but did not leave it behind = no prints), the second time they didn't because it was the same thing, no prints. Here is what I did, I hid out for a few nights waiting for them to come back, and I left a note on the windshield calling them out and saying ring my door bell next time and we will see what kind of "man" you are. The note used some very colorful language that can only be typed in the Garage, but you get the idea. I was just trying to get pissed off so they would do it again, because I was waiting for them... with a camera. The cops told me the only way they could really figure out who it was (and prosecute) is if they were caught on tape. They never took the bait, but then again my windows haven't been smashed again either.

Cliff notes: protect your own lives/property because the police wont

white trash stays out of my yard now. Flood lights and a crazy guy racking a shotgun probaly has something to do with it. Reid has been to my place nice neighborhood and we had 2 breakins in broad daylight. Folks the cops will take a report hopefully and that really is about it. Expectations of anything else simply sets you up for disapointment
