Need some help. My front arb is not engaging. I have checked the usual. Swapped front and rear air line. Pulled the copper tubing out and I can insert a paperclip in it so it is not crushed at the fitting. Put shop air on it as well and can here the piston click in the locker. But it will not engage. No leaks either the arb compressor is not cycling and I cannot hear any air leaking at the locker. Cover is off so I can hear things pretty well.

Help.

If you are hearing clicking when turning, you may have a broken engagement ring or gear somewhere.
Just helped a buddy with the exact same symptoms on an 8.8 yesterday. Had a broken engagement collar on his.

Here are some pictures. There is a shim between the spider and the lock ring. It looks like it has gotten smashed too much and is preventing the lock ring from sliding past.

Here is an update. Took it to east coast to get parts. They agreed it needed new thrust washers and that was the problem. The lock ring showed signs of wear so I replaced it and the internal seal and a new gas tube and ring.

Switched from springs to the wave spring as well as it came with the new lock ring.

All back together and bench tested. Engaging really smoothly.

@Jody Treadway thanks for the help.

Hope to get it back in tomorrow.
