starting fluid for beads, jumper cables and batterie x2 for welding, no compressor yet, various wrenches, hammers, screwdrivers, etc, hi lift, come-a-long ( actually mitchel from GA has it now, needed it to pull his 4 link back together at DPG this weekend), straps, going to buy a snatch block now that i have a winch.

sounds like metto has a good start. am i missing something with the battery cables and welder. how do you go about doing that???
also, metto, wheres the fire ext. ??? haha.

Dam Metto. I can't believe you did not mention the fire extinguisher.

Edit: Doh! Jeepeater beat me to it.

He didn't mention any rod for said "battery" welder...

1 battery + jumper cables + small rod = DC welder for small/thin stuff
2 batteries + 2 sets of jumper cables + larger rod = DC welder for med/thick stuff

Ain't pretty, but beats walking out of the woods any day! I seen a good share of things welded back together with this setup (spring hangers, perches, TRs, DLs)... didn't work too well on a TJ pitman though, eh Chip? :D

Me, I have this saying, "When you drive a 30+ year old Jeep, don't leave home without the tools to overhaul the engine on the side of the road"... while I usually carry *TOO* much trash & *TOO* many tools, I can point you to several folks that were mighty gracious I did... a YJ guy broke both F&R DSs on RML and I happen to have a TJ SY+DS in the back... and my spare NT TR happens to fit a TJ. Might as well thro UJOR a bone too.... he gave me his spare DL at Windrocks a few weeks back when my did the pretzel. I like to think of it as "Jeep Karma" :flipoff2:

explain to me how you would use 2 jumper cables  .

can't never have to many tools and parts. don't learn it the hard way. learn it from other pp's mistakes. :D

You connect the batteries in series with one set. + to - then you connect the other set as the ground and the welder. ie. one to the frame and the other to the welder stick. Can't forget to mention a blanket to cover the batteries here. This can and will cause the batteries to explode so watch the duty cycle. I also try to carry all the spare parts I own. Plus some scrap steel to weld up if I need it. of course all the hammers, pliers, c-clamps, nuts and bolts, cotter pins, some spare wire, duct tape, hose repair kit, tire repair kit, spare valve stems, ratchet strap, as many tools as I can hold. Mostly in tool rolls then into a canvas duffel bag. My battery blanket doubles as a mud shield if I have to work under a rig. Most of the time the spare parts sit at the camp or tow rig. Then someone can just grab them if they are needed. lets not forget fluids, lots and lots of fluids and a spill kit. A shovel and bag for contaminated dirt, oil absorb for oil on rocks. Sometimes even a oil absorber that is made to float and pull the stuff out of the streams and other water on site. And don't forget flashlights, and snacks for your helpers.

edit so others don't jump on me. Fire extinguishers, and a good stocked first aid kit, and all the medications that you may need.

I cary all the parts that I know may break, and all the tools to do it, plus some common jeep, ford, chev tools (for the other guy)

I carry Ready Welder, a mig welder for the trail. Simple to use and compact. Spares of about everything I have ever broke or seen broke Outer axles for my 60, all u-joints, even have some 14 bolt axle spares, pitman arm, tie rod, drag link, heim joins, assorted bolts, nuts and washers, wire, duct tape, electric tape, solenoid, coil, winch cable clamps, A vice, Spare altenator. J B Weld Fire ext, first aid kit, fluids of all types, tools to do about anything with. CB radio, Spare metal for trail fixes, Full size spare. I run OBA using the York compressor, air tools included, Drill, Grinder brush, impact, air chuck. Plenty of ratchet straps.
No blown beads since I run bead locks, but I have a friend who blew three(inside) on one trail.

Not sure what you have so far. I would start with a winch, then more agressive tires, then lockers, all the while building inventory of spares that are common breaks for your rig. Fluids and so on. Trying to do all this at once will run a pretty penny, so work on it as you can. good luck

WOW. you all certanly have more than i thought off but certanly need. i guess i have a good list of what i need when i try and tackle tellico or crackers neck next year. mainly bc i will have more money.
let your ideas keep on rolling.

PS. THANKS

Fluids, ujoints, every tool you can think of, first aid kit, fire extingusher, 2 gallons of water, 1 gallon antifreeze, no on board air yet and no welder yet.
