This is just to warn the guys around Burke County and the ones pulling through here that they are looking for and checking smaller trucks for being over weight. I know of two of us on the board been pulled and one of us got a nice ticket and it wasn't me. I also know of a few others been pulled.
Make sure your tagged for what you weigh!!!

Mods please move this to general chat. Maybe more people will see it. Thanks

Lets see-four door 1-ton diesel truck,2400 pound trailer,caged 1-toned blazer on 42's,on a reg passenger car tag.No probably not.:D Where's Burke county again????

I'm at 17,000 on an F250SD, pulling up to 10k loaded....probably cutting it close, with camping equipment and junk in the back of the 250...

IIRC, a regular ($28) plate is only good for up to...I think, 4500lbs...or was it 5500...even if you don't tow anything, a big pickup will blow that.

Do you need a weighted plate for yanking a tow dolly?

If you are using your pick-up truck for anything more than a passenger car, YES, you need weighted tags.

I thought the rule was anything over 7000 lbs needed a weighted tag. If the truck and trailer combo is 6999 or under, you're fine with regular passenger plates. If your pickup truck alone is 7000+, you need a weighted tag.

To get a truck and trailer combo to be less than 6999, you'd have to be driving a stock toyaota, and pulling an empty harbor freight trailer.

Where are they pulling people, anywhere they are.

They also have weighted tags that look like car tags. Those are the ~7k ones.

Cyd's dad got caught at the DMV this year trying to renew the car tag on his 1500 Dodge. They made him upgrade to a 6k or 7k tag. Looks the same, just cost more money.

It's called "sources of additional revenue" $$$$$$
:D

I have my 2009 Tundra tagged at 16K, but with the 24' enclosed trailer with the CJ and Razor plus camping gear I feel like I need more. Need to go to a scale and have it weighed. The 16K tag was $220.60.

It's tiered. 9001# to 13k tag is $10 per 1k, so $130 for a 13k plus some other fees, about $138, IIRC. 13,001 to 17k is $13.60 per 1k, and over 17k is $15.40 per 1k.

So if you can figure out how to stay under 17k or under 13k, there's a substantial cost savings.

IIRC in TN the tags are 9000,16000 and 20000 on up.I really need a 20K tag but cant really afford one.

Just a reminder for those who barrow trailers and to state the obvious.

The tax and weighted tag is for each truck. Any truck that might pull a trailer/load need to be tagged/weighted properly.

Generally I've seen the scoping out people pulling without weighted tags. Most look like they borrowed a friends car trailer to haul a car home...

That's easy money for them, your clearly over without having to drop scales to check.

Even if your weighted and 'might be close' they would have to weigh you to sure. That takes time/effort vs the easy targets.

I am pretty sure I bought a 15k tag, and it costs me $200/yr. MUCH cheaper than some of the tickets I have heard of people getting over the past couple of years when NC apparently decided to make this a source of revenue for them by pulling people over and weighing them.
