I'm wanting to take the wife and kids to see the Braves vs. Mets last home stand next week. Anyone have any advice on how to get to and around Turner stadium? How about where to stay and not to stay?

Thanks,
Aaron

get there?
I85 South... cant miss it

I actually ahvent been since it was Fulton County Stdium, used to be a nice holiday inn like 2 blocks away, that gave you face value of baseball tickets off room rate if you showed tickets...

Not sure if the promom still exists (doubt it) or if the hotel is still there/nice, its been a while

There are houses on the streets just a couple blocks from the stadium. When you're going to the game, you'll see people that live in those houses ushering people into their yards to park. I went to the Mets game in the spring and we parked there. That's what I recommend. You're really close to the stadium, and it's like $10 or something for a car. Despite the appearance of some of the houses, it seemed to be a pretty safe place to park.

Oh, and traffic getting to and leaving the game will be HEAVY.

Thanks fellas. I got my tickets and resevations. I hope this will not be too bad. I hate city traffic! I despise going to Charlotte, let alone an even bigger traffic mess.

I find the traffic in Atlanta to be a bit better than Charlotte, even though the volume in Atl. is about double (triple? quadruple?) that of Atl. It's funny when we return (lived there for 4-5 years in the late '80s) that it appears to move better than here in W-S

A few quick tips for Atlanta metro driving...

1) Despite posted speed limits, actual speeds in the lanes goes as follows:
- Far outside lanes/ramps = up to 10 MPH over posted
- Next 2-3 lanes going inward = increase of 5-10 MPH over the lanes immediately to the right
- Inboard lane = get the @#$% outta the way if your not running 25-30 MPH over the posted! (they'll put you into the wall quicker than Earnhardt!)

2) Stoplights... red = try to make it, yellow = it ain't red yet, & green = stop where you are cause the other side is running the red!

3) Googlemap & print as much as possible before you go... in a city as large as Atl., there are more opinions & misconceptions on "how do I get to xxx?" as there are people in the city. We used to purposefully give "tourists" bad directions (complete opposite direction) when asked the above

4) *IF* you have to ask and given directions that include "Peachtree", make damn sure they give you the FULL story! IOW, there are about 10K roads/streets within Atl. metro that begin with "Peachtree"
