i thought rich had a DTT in his old dodge?
My truck came with a new ATS Stage IV trans with 10k on it when I bought it. 10k later under basically stock power levels (stock plate slid, that's it), it self-destructed.
A made-in-taiwan planetary which is commonly used in cheap rebuilds made it through ATS's QC process un-noticed, and failed, in a rather spectacular fashion. This planetary is EASILY identified visually from the OEM part, and there's really no excuse for it making it through.
I requested, then demanded (when they didn't want to show me the parts), hi-res photos of the damaged parts. I e-mailed Suncoast, DTT, goerend, basically every hi-po 47RE builder I could find, and showed them the photos while I had them on the phone. Without fail, all of them, within 5 seconds of seeing the photos, identified it as a cheapy part.
ATS accused me of rocking the truck while mired in the mud from drive to reverse, under power. I explained that IF i wanted to play in the mud, I've got something for that, and that I was towing a trailer when it happened. "Aaahhh, I see, how heavy was the trailer?" They were let down when I told them 2000-2500lbs (empty car hauler with 10 sticks of .120 DOM on it). They flat out said I was lying to them, and refused to honor their warranty, but then "offered" to rebuild the trans "at cost", for the paltry sum of $1800 + freight, plus the several hundred $ for their "authorized" trans shop to R&R the trans. I told them where they could stick this transmission.
Rob, voodoo, and I picked up my truck with no transmission from the authorized shop and towed it up to VA to have the DTT trans built and installed.. The Raleigh shop later told me of the 15 ATS transmissions they have sold, every one of them have come back with issues, and they aren't allowed to do anything except install and test pressures, so it's not them screwing it up.
Ask ATS or any vendor you're considering what happens if you have a problem with the trans.. can it be fixed on the spot, or does it have to go on a pallet, leaving you without a truck for a week or more (Mine was down for 3 weeks, and was my DD at that point)
Had the defective part not made it through, I might have had no problems with ATS, but their QC is *very* hit or miss. I had the DTT trans for 50k miles, and had NO issues with it. I *thought* I had a slipping TC (I didn't) at about 20k, and when I brought it up to have it checked, DTT warrantied a complete rebuild, and a new TC. NO cost to me, not a dime.
BTW, are you SURE you need a FULL billet trans? input shaft? sure. Output shaft? maybe, but yes if you want to drag race lauch at >10psi boost. Intermediate shaft? You da man... you're making BIG power. (700+hp / 1500+lb-ft) and beating on it like it owes you money.
