Hi there.

I have a friend that is buying an ATV for use on her farm and I have two questions.

When buying a new ATV do people "haggle" on price like a new car?

The second one I will look up, but figured I'd throw it out there.

Do you have to register and pay taxes on ATVs like you do for boats?

First off buy a honda. (Just what i like the best) Yes they do "haggle" on price. You only have to pay sales tax in NC far as i know. Could be a little different as farm equipment. www.southernhonda.com they have really good prices. alot of times you can print there price out and the local dealer will match it plus sales tax. hope this helps.
 
Never buy a brand new dirtbike or fourwheeler unless you just enjoy throwing away money. You can typically get a ~2 year old model of any bike or quad for about half price.
Don't forget the tax, title and assembly fees that are tacked on afterwards as well.

x3 on the don't buy new. I did, bad mistake. I could have gotten a personal loan and found much better four wheelers for the price I paid. But, alas, I was impatient and made an emotional purchase.
 
SportCycles in Rockingham is about the cheapest around for Honda ATV's. They are usually within $100 or so of Southern Powersports in Chattanooga, TN. They don't B.S. around with price either, just call them up on the phone and ask them the out the door price and they will tell you price with tax and that is what you'll pay.
 
I totally agree, we have a "crowd "of about 12 who ride on weekends all different makes of bikes ,all I've had are Honda's they may not be the baddest or fastest but taken care of they will last a lifetime,buy a gently used one and save thousands!
 
You can get a discount if your land is farm use also. You'll have to have some kind of paperwork, but it is a discount on a new one.
