I already have an Aussie Locker up front and I love it. Im thinking of ordering one to go in the rear but Im not sure how its gonna effect me driving my jeep everyday since it is my dd. I dont really care about road manners as long as it performs well but just wanted some info/heads up from some people that have ratchet style lockers in both axles or just the rear and how they act on the road.

Why not just weld the rear, cheap and easy and you know it's always locked and wont surprise you during engagment/disengagment.

I drive it everyday so I am going to need some kind of slip back there

I have an Aussie in the rear of my CJ. I don't drive it every day but enough to know what to expect. Only times I can tell it's there is when turning, which of course you hear the ratcheting noise (heavier wt gear oil can reduce the noise). Sometimes it will bang if I get back in the gas too hard after a sharp turn. I also feel it squirm a little when changing gears, if you have an auto I understand it's not as noticable. You will get used to all this with driving time. Just try to learn to coast thru tight turns and you should have no extra tire wear.

I have a Spartan in my rear diff, and it bangs at times if I get on it too hard as well. Like Smokeeater, I can only tell it's there when turning, especially when backing up. It does click sometimes when coasting, but I wouldn't advise against getting one installed in the rear.

On the other hand, I've been debating putting one in the front.

Its great in the front I cant even tell its there. Im not too worried about the noise but does all that ratcheting cause them to wear out quick?

If you still have youre d35 in the back I would be very cautious about a rear locker. If you have increased tire size you will be very likely to start breaking axle shafts offroad.

I run lockrights front and rear on my DD TJ. Be smooth on the throttle through turns and its fine. On/off the throttle in the turns can change the angle of thrust a bit, but you get used to compensating for it.

Just do it. I had lockrights in the back of my last 2 yotas and drove them on the road all the time. You get used to how they act pretty quickly. Im about to put a lockright in the rear of the pickup I just got. Already put a lockright in the front.

ive got an aussie up front and a spartan out back in my toyota, yeah they pop and pull a little when shifting but they beat the hell out of a lockrite
