It's time for me to give the Aw4 a little love. It seems to shift into 2nd when I need it to stay in 1st and bounce off the rev limiter like a large breasted lady on a trampoline. Who here has done a shift kit or stand alone controller? Have you done both? 40" tires are definitely putting a strain on it so I added a fan to my trans cooler. I also ordered a trans temp gauge to help keep and eye on temps.

I would just do the rad designs winters shifter that has built in cams and micro switches to control it. Can even do a switch to toggle between full manual via the shifter or factory “auto” mode
That complete shifter is 380 vs the rail shifter for 120. The original shifter in my jeep works just fine.

hey bro you know there's a simple mod you can do with a few switches that will keep it in first gear it's a very popular thing among the XJ gurus, pretty simple too and practically free

But don't mind me that's me and my cheap broke butt haha

X2 on this. I spoke to my barber this am and this is what he runs on his yj. Told me to tell @1stgenxxx to feel free to call him if you needed to. I told him you and I were friends so behave if you do, I failed to mention to him you’re the King of Hudson.

x3. I think it would suck having to use two shifters while going forward and backward on a trail.

I'm looking more into the cheap way to hold the jeep in 1st.
I don't need the fancy shifter and my jeep doesn't really need to go faster than 2nd gear. Lol. It's trail only and pretty scary on the road.

Splice in a spst (on off two pin) switch in the solenoid #2 wires.
On=normal
off=forced 1st
According to above page,
Obd I - Sol #2- Purple striped wire
Obd ii - Sol. #2-OR/WT(orange w/white stripe)

Allows normal automatic function, but let's you force it to stay in 1st. Will cause CEL on obdII for a open circuit solenoid but there's a bypass for that if it concerns you or if it goes into limp mode (add a 10 ohm resistor to ground before the switch, that will prevent a solenoid failed code, though if it can throw a gear ratio error code, it will)

Can look up specifics if you give me year
