I've been in an AX-5 and surprised myself by putting it back together. Swapped 5th off a core into mine that had lost 5th. I say either go for it yourself or find a used one.

i thought of a used one but they are high, i can rebuild it much cheaper. mine has synchronizers going out it grinds going into third and fourth and hangs up sometimes but i cant find a transmission shop that will even touch a manual transmission anymore. they told me there wasnt enough money in it. another shop quoted me 1200 if i took it out

Shop around. I've seen them for $200. Also, keep an eye out for a 3550.
