I all depends on your fab skills, If your welding is up to par, then the rest is pretty straight forward.

Go here and read up,

I know its a 8.8 install, But you can use the measurements and go about it the same way.

Are you keeping the factory type suspension or are you doing a custom suspension? If your just keeping it like it was with the factory axles its not that big of a deal. If your wanting a custom suspension then I would take to someone, Seeing this would be your first time. Although it is up to what you feel your capable of.

Keep in mind an axle swap requires you to address the following.

  • Suspension Brackets - Front and Rear - Check with Mud Pro on these.
  • Drive Shafts
  • Brakes
  • Bolt Pattern, The 9 and HP44 will not be 5 on 4 1/2 that you have now.
  • Steering setup

If you have swapped over axles in a leaf sprung jeep than you should be able to handle it.

i can weld thats not a problem im really starting to think about the 8.8 but im sorta worried about the d30 front i have a 6in lift waiting and some 36's i dont do as much wheeling as i used to but i still go every now and then so far i havent had problems with 33's what do u think

I wheel a D30 bone stock internals with a lunch box locker on 35s for the last 8 years. I have it trussed to help it, I have had good luck with it, No issues as of yet, I am just running 4.10s though.

That being said I would do the HP44/9 if I had it to do again. I want to step up in tire size to a 37 but the D30 is limiting me.

Eventually I will sale the 8.8.
