I am getting ready to have axles rebuilt for my cj8. My dana 30 and 44 currently have stock strap style pinion yokes. I have noticed that you can buy ubolt style yokes for about 90-100 each. Is this a needed upgrade? Rig will be a weekend toy with light/moderate wheeling. Just curious if its worth the money or if its better spent some where else.

Instead of buying new, you might be able to find them used. I've parted out a few 76-86 CJs, earlier ones had u-bolts, later had straps. Because they were on a Jeep, I think it's safe to say those yokes were used somewhere else too.

Probably Not worth it unless you are wheeling to the point you are banging and grinding your yokes on rocks.

I think it is still worth it on a daily driver. I had a CJ5 back in the day and, while I took it off road occasionally, 95% of the time was on the road. My straps kept coming loose even with lock tite. I was constantly tightening them up. Upgraded to U bolt style and no issues after that.
