Axle ???

I have some CJ wide trac axles geared 2.73 and a set of narrow cj axles geared 3.54. Both rear are amc20 and both front are d30 can I swap the center sections or gears? I was planning on welding the rear when or if I make these changes. Do I need to pull the axles when I weld the spiders?

Yes, you can pull the carrier/gears and move it from one axle to another. You should check and rest the gear setup. I paid ECGS to do mine.
The AMC20 2.73 carrier is specific to that gear ratio only, so you have to swap carrier plus gears.
Since you'll be pulling carriers, you might as well weld the spiders with the carrier sitting in a vise instead of in the axle housing.
 
so you can't regear a 2.73 carrier? When I counted the teeth I came up with 41 and I was happy because I was thinking 10 teeth for some reason on the pinion gear but it was 15 and then I was sad.
