bad brakes

If you have to ask have a mechanic fix the truck. I'm not willing to risk the lives of my friends and family by you trying to fix the brakes on your truck.

I'd check the rear brakes. Make sure the wheel cylinders aren't leaking and getting fluid on the shoes. It could possibly be the Master Cyl. also.

If I was being a smartass I would have to you to start by checking the canuter valve. I gave you my opinion that if you need your hand held to diagnose a brake problem you should have it professionally repaired as I'm not willing to risk other peoples safety by you trying to figure it out.

I won't kiss your ass but the fact that my opinion means nothing to you does not bother me, you came here asking for suggestions and I gave you my opinion as a professional.

First off how did the mechanic guage you were not getting enough fluid to the back?

I mean anything is possible but I have never heard that as a response. Most times the mechanic would say "it's the master cylinder" or "it's the wheel cylinders" or ETC...

Secondly brakes should never be diagnosed on a message board by someone who doesn't know how brakes work. One part backwards could mean brake failure and I agree with "latest project" I wouldn't want my family around when this occurs.

Hydraulic brakes are one of the most basic of mechanical designs. If you have never worked on them before you should not try and do the repair yourself, however a suggestion would be to have someone help you with them and learn that way.

thanks for nothing guy's i just wanted a little advice every thing is new just not getting enough pressuer to the back, i will ask someone who know's,,

If everything is new and you are not getting enough pressure then you will not solve it on the message board. A qualified mechanic physically looking at it in person will be the ONLY person who can help you.

Pushrod,
The guys are trying to give you good advice, you refuse to listen.

I'm going to take a few minutes and break this down real simple.
"Not enough fluid to the back" could be caused by:
1) improper MC not designed to push enough fluid to the back
2) A severe blockage in the line stopping fluid flow
3) A poorly designed brake system with the wrong proportioning valve etc.
4) A bad MC that is leaking back against the seal

Now *IF* you vehicle is stock we can eliminate 1 and 3 and the only possible scenarios would be a blockage or kink in your brake line or a bad MC. It just doesnt seem likely that that would be a mechanic's diagnosis. If you have modified your vehicle by covering to rear discs or some other type mod, then you did not give us enough information, did you....

Look I would much rather you attempt to home bore you cylinders with no clue what you are doing than I would you attempt to fix a brake system without a clue. brakes are quite simple.

BTW you do realize rear brakes account for about 20% on a truck right?
I have driven home from URE with a truck with only front brakes and it while noticeable it wasnt that bad.
I would consult a different mechanic personally

You are not being trashed at all.

And we are far from snobs but if thats your opinion by all means you are certainly entitled to it.

The symptoms you are describing cannot be diagnosed on a message board ... and for the safety of anybody in or around your vehicle they shouldn't be diagnosed here. You are looking for a quick fix answer which cannot be given here.

You have been told the best possible solution to your problem by us snobs.

i have every intencion of haveing them fixed by a qualified mech. but i have the need to know why they are acting like they are, the whole system is stock, i just thought someone might have ran across this problem and could tell me what the problem is, and all i got was trashed, there is one thing for sure this will be my last post here you guys are snobs
Hello, Did you not see my post.(#3) I was trying to help. Are you too wrapped up in yourself to listen. And don't be so uptight. Also, trying to help here so listen. The proportion valve can block flow to the rear brakes. It is designed to do it if it losses pressure in the rear system. And it is hard to diagnose a vehicle without looking at it in person.

If you are having a mechanic repair them then what do you need to know what is a matter with them for, all you need to do is hand him the keys and say "I need my brakes fixed"

first thing I'd do is bleed them, and make sure you're getting fluid on both sides of the rear...and to get any possible air out of the lines...
