Alright here is the deal. I didnt do my homework like I should have and found out that I dont want to pay to have something powdercoated because it is gonna be about $200!! So on to plan B. Does anyone have any suggestions on painting this new front bumper I just got for my TJ? The bumper is still raw metal with some slight rust starting to show because it has been sitting on my front porch. I of course would like to paint it black and would like to make sure the paint is not going to flake off or that I will not have to paint it next year. I know I need to sand the little bit of rust off but where do i need to go from there?

Just use black hammered paint and be done with it.

$4/can primer and spray paint will work just as good as powdercoat. Its too weak to flake, and nothing holds up to gouges/scratches.

Call around 200 seens expensive for powdercoating. I got a qoute for a frame of $550. Also call around to some line-X/ rhino lining places. Might be able to work out a deal to spray your bumper in conjuction with another pjoject to help with the cost issue.

as said, id just hit it with some scotchbrite and sand paper, clean it, primer it, spray bomb it.... hammered black or black epoxy paint seem to hold up to decent abuse... but nothing will keep from scratching eventually

epoxy is the way to go no primer needed get it at lowes about $3.00 a can
