I just bought a Jeep for my wife (97 TJ) that has a set of 2 inch springs under it and 31's and would like to put something a little bigger under it,about a 33 inch tire.So can I use a budget boost along with the 2 inch coils??? Or will that be reaching the limits of a stock control arm???

Be easy on me,this is my 1st coiled jeep.

i feel your pain i just got 2 xj's and im lost in the water with um , wish i knew somin to help ya, i hope ya get some good info off this that way i can know too

try www.naxja.org great site

I'm not a TJ coil guru but from what I understand you can go to about 3" before you run into arm issues. 2" coils and 2" spacers would probably be right at the limit. Put them on and see for yourself. With your skillz you could modify spacers/bumpstops or arms with little problem.

I also am not a TJ guru, but I do have some knowledge of coils in my ZJ. I agree with John, at 4" your stock arms are going to be at a pretty steep angle, and your ride quality is going to be a little rough. Also, the rear tire is going to be very close to the front of the fender. Another thing, is your pionion angle could be off as well. Like I said this is experience with ZJs not TJs so I may be a little off. If you really want 4", maybe look into getting some adjustable lower arms at the very least.

I had 4" coils on my TJ for a while with stock arms but needed an SYE kit. I am assuming with only 2" springs now you don't have one yet, so keep that in mind. I think the short arms would be ok but I personally wouldn't do it. How about a 1" daystar body mount kit instead? You should be able to stuff 33's with that and 2" coils.

If you really want 4", maybe look into getting some adjustable upper arms at the very least.

I think you'll find you want lower arms first. I'm at 4.5-5" on my XJ with RE lowers/stock uppers and my ride quality is pretty good.

Way better than it was at 3" and stock lowers.

I'm not a TJ guy but were it an XJ (same suspension, right?) I'd put it this way if you want to add the following to your 2" springs:

1" BB and you should be fine though the ride will get rougher with LCA angles that steep. Still might have trac bar issues though.

2" BB I don't think you'd want that on stock arms.

What's the story on the trac bar? If you've still got the stocker there's another place where 3" + is gonna make you do a couple things (can just redrill the hole in the frame side bracket if you're cheap). I'd suggest an adjustable.

I haven't got it home yet(goin Sat to get it) so I don't know the exacxt susp set up and I dont imagine it has a SYE yet. This was suppose to be a "leave it alone and drive it" kinda thing but I'm already wantin to do a 8.8 swap and bigger tires.

I would love to do a long arm on it but my fundage won't allow for that right now.

Hmm.
I am a TJ guy.
2" BB or lift = fine. No need for arms, adj trackbar, SYE, etc etc.
anymore, it gets iffy.
Now, pick up a 1" or 1.25" body lift, and you'll be fine for some 33s under there.
(In addition to the 2" BB or lift)

4" lift would need at least a big tcase spacer dropping it back down. and some toher things would start to wear out.
So just get a 1" or 1.25" body lift, and be done.

I had 2" spacers and 2" springs under mine with no sye, just a t-case drop. I only had longer lower arms in the front. It was fine but did not really flex to well

Just a hijack question, do TJ front LCA mounts have the same clearance issue on the arms that the XJs do?

On downtravel mine were rubbing against the coil bucket/shock mounts, I ground away a bit and got a *bit* more...

I would say yes, since they are the same front axle.
But that being said, I've never noticed mine limited by rubbing there.
(Even when I had the stock arms)

Id throw in a 1.25" body lift and call it done. If you go much higher that 2" in suspension, you will have to deal with vibes and such...more money.

now if you have plenty of money...its not an issue.

Ive got a 2 1/4" budget boost and run 33X10.50's with no problems (had rubbing on the LCS's due to staying with the stock grizzly wheels)...and I have a 1.25" BL that i havent put in yet....maybe I will if I dont sell it.

Yeah, mine didn't start hitting until I got the tube arms & went to a height of over 4" and even then I don't think it was limiting it that much. I got 1/2-3/4" material out of there.

When I swapped in a different XJ axle the PO had also ground the same spot down and I've heard about it from other XJ people so its fairly common on XJs. Which is why I wondered since I thought the bracketry was exactly the same.

Completely agree.
