The wider outer ring protects your hubs.
Plus it looks pimp.

I don't know how I get anything done as well. My graduate classes are really suffering but the race thing is def. fun though

Mine used to have a wide outer ring. I hated it. It was a PITA to clean. I had mine cut out.

They aren't 1/4" but they do come with hardware. They worked fine for my off road application.

Like Chip said, the wider ring is just for holding more mud

The hardware can get expensive. The bigger ring is less likely to get damaged and protects the rim better.

I usually buy grade 2 hardware. I mean really, there are 30-32 bolts per ring and they constantly get damaged. I'd hate to spend the $$$ on grade 8 to have to throw several out after a long wheeling trip after it was damaged.


Go grade 2 and save yourself a ton of $$$
