i have a 70's dana 70HD i got from a member here, stripped all the brake stuff off, and noticed one spindle it looks like the inner bearing spun on the spindle, leaving some scoring on the spindle. question is, if a new bearing fits good, will it be ok or do i need to have the spindle replaced? what causes one to do this? the bearing freezing up?

yep a frooze bearing does this. a really screwed spindle is when they weld themselves together from the heat. If the race comes off your ahead of the game. If it doesn't have any large pitting or gouged out places you'll be fine. Take a file and knock down the high spots and clean it up with an emory cloth or fine sand paper. The bearing should slip over the spindle with a little resistance with no play in it on the shaft. I've cut off froozen bearings and ran them before when the owner didn't want to fork out cash for a new spindle. I like to reassymble mine with a little grease on the spindle and have put antisieze on the inner race before, it all runs in grease if its kept serviced.

the bad bearing was not on it when i got it, the one that is there looks new. just wondering of it would be ok to run like this. some scoring, no chunks or pitting.
