Optima says they're a battery distributor for their batteries. I'm not looking to cheap out by going there, I'm just looking for a red-top locally that I can get after work. Are they the same battery?

-- I still gotta get the CJ inspected, and an assload of other annoying odds and ends done for a ride in a couple weeks.

I bought a couple of what our local distributer calls "BLEM" Optima Red top batts for 50.00 each. 30 Day warrenty and no tags.

Just a thought.

At the shop we try to keep a few in stock.

You might want to check with the local vendor about some blems.

FWIW Batteries plus has them for 125.99, and they don't have BLEM (they have a central shipping area that sorts that sort of thing out).

Same for sears.

Yeah, you've got some kick-ass stuff (I'm using those BAMF cell tower batteries to make myself a power station for my CPAP, for camping). I'm going a little more mainstream with the main battery for the CJ (no tow rig, and I want to be able to swap out easily in case of a failure).

I got a Blue Top Deep Cycle for $119...it's a ProComp brand, but same warranty and almost identical specs...

FYI...Optima will NOT warranty a Red Top if you hook a winch to it...so you'd better have an inside contact that will help you out.

Optima's warranty department seems to be less than satisfactory. Had a GM style side post strip out on a 4 month old red top, and Optima told me I was SOL.

Was it striped out when you bought it? Breaking something because you can't thread a bolt should not be covered under a warranty...

There are 2 sizes of Red top, Advance carries both of them, I have the smaller in my YJ, it's been plenty strong for all my needs.

Ive got the smaller size red top in my cherokee for the past 5 months or so and I am pretty happy with it, no complaints yet

Got the red top at poop boys (I had to return a core there anyhow). I'd get another red top for $50 if I could find one (asked around).

Johnson Controls now owns Optima. I work for the company that haules the batterys for Johnson Controls. Most of those blem batterys have nothing wrong with them other the cosmetic. The battery dealers are usually offered a whole pallet of blems at a very low price. The pallet is usualy a mix of all different batterys.

Who gets the blems, ie where can I find one cheap?

:stupid:

Nicole's car needs a good battery... and a pair for the CTD would be :huggy:

Zen told me about that, it wasnt the threads in the batt, it was the piece of metal the threads are in. That whole round metal piece started spinning.

If it was my fault, I'd be bitching about my lack of motor skills. Anyway, there's a little metal threaded "cup" (for lack of a better word) that is set into the lead of the terminal. That spun in the lead and came out with the bolt.

And just for the record, I AM capable of threading a bolt. :flipoff2:
