Ball joints are worn out on the axle I'm putting in the front of the jeep. It's a 78 F250 D44HD. Not sure if that matters. I don't need anything fancy, but what are the options for D44 ball joints? Or are they all the same?
Used moog in this 79 f250 d44 build. A good friend who who rebuilt many of these and try most bj brands said moog was the only one he found to last. A pretty penny but cheaper on rock auto. I trust his judgement after visually seeing the physical evidence of years experience working with ford axles.
So far Ive got 20K on my moog ball joints on a 78 f150 d44. so far so good. Look at amazon, but if you call advance auto customer service they will price match and let you use online promo codes on it. That way you will have a lifetime warranty on them if you keep the receipt.
I've heard/seen issues with the knurled synergys for the older 44s. You'll have to keep using knurled ones after that. And you're correct JKs use a completely different joint. Moog would be my choice when I go through this 8 lug 10 bolt in my garage.
Not sure about other vehicles but the moogs are trash in 3rd gen dodges. In all fairness they are know to eat ball joints but the moog are supposedly the worst.
They are so tight the steering won't even return to center according the interwebz and a local reputable shop.
