So I'm looking to do somewhere around 24-30 hours of community service...

Though I'm not wanting the absolute easiest way out, I also don't want something like cleaning the toilets at the local homeless shelter, either..

So how about some ideas? One that came to mind was staffing a suicide hotline..

Them: "I just can't take it anymore"
Me: "Well, it's been nice knowing ya, make sure you pee first"
(I keed, I keed)

Seriously, that is one idea, but if there's any other legit places I could volunteer some time that might be more gratifying, let's hear 'em!

at least you get to choose....im forced into doing them at the local recycling center.....still dont exactly know what i will be doing tho.....

There is a place called http://www.give2thetroops.org/ 3109 Landmark St. Greenville, NC 27834

I go down and help pack boxes to send over to the troops and its fun plus its goes for something good. Last time I was in they had people doing time and were working with them to help out..... It was fun for me to do it, work was giving me time off then I just started taking time off to help out...

Damn what a slice of the population we got on this board, should we add a spot for "crimes committed" on the membership profile. :flipoff2:

Not sure what type of place qualifies, I've been doing some volunteer wrenching at the wheels4hope.org place in E.Raleigh.

Ok, nobody else has asked yet - is this, er, "voluntary" volunteering for your community?
Go hit up Rex, Wake Med, or one of the other local hospitals, call the HR department and see what options they have.
I know at the WFU Medical Center we have people doing all kinds of things, from folding laundry (boring!) to pushing food carts around delivering food to patients etc. Many options... if you can convince them you're reasonably intelligent and responsible, the options go up.

You can when it's not handed down by a judge.. ;)

RatLab.. that doesn't sound very enjoyable..

wheels4hope sounds interesting..

Actually, some counties you can pick where you go, even if it is handed down by a judge. Just depends on how lax your county is. I know Caldwell doesnt really put much thought in to it, you get to pick where you go. Same with Watuaga.

BUT Catawba puts you wherever they want, and the Community Service woman is none too nice about it either.

Goodwill = nasty clothes...

Fire Department = Playing with hoses and washing big red trucks

I went to a local park and ended up painting some old homestead, wasnt bad.

I washed police cars everyday for 2 weeks in college.
Should have been 40 hours, but they caught me driving them to the carwash my biddy managed and doing a drive thru..so they waited to Friday to tell me none of my hours counted

As I read it, I think Rich is just wanting to do some volunteer work, and give back to his community.

Maybe with all your knowledge, hold some workshops for newbies and teach them something about four wheeling, welding, and so on.

Go down to the senior center and talk to the director, probably some older citizens could use a hand with some maintenance or repair of their vehicles

Do you have a local big brothers?

Touch some paint on local play ground equipment?

Many things you could do if you get creative

You could always ride around in a 70's van with no windows and offer candy to children...

I had to do it at the Hickory airport once....and then a different time at Goodwill...Goodwill sucked

You could hold the stop/slow sign at a nearby road const. project. That always looks like fun. Thay get a walkie talkie too!:flipoff2:

He said community service...not service the community :driver:

If ya really want to help out and have spare time, I've got a buggy that needs to be finished, leaves that need to be raked, grass to be cut, a little painting and some leftover christmas lights to put away. I'll even write a nice letter about the volunteer work to whoever you want:flipoff2:
