Can anyone tell the best place in the outer banks to go 4 wheeling and camping. I want to take my wife and boys in a couple of weeks. I haven't been in a VERY long time so I am way out of the loop. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

I'm partial to Ocracoke. But if you want true isolation Core banks rocks.. Ocracoke is nice, few campgrounds on the island, and plenty of 4x4 access. Swing by the hatteras light house on the way in/out. You should call now and make reservations..

I would say south Core banks (Cape Lookout) if you want total isolation. The only way over there is by ferry. You must make reservations. Fishing is great, plenty of area to use your 4x4 and if you don't like roughing it, there are some cabins for rent for reasonable. Bring your own source of electricity :)

If you go, check out Mac at Cape Lookout Cabins and Ferry Service. He is a true host and the ultimate nice guy and will treat you right.

As for over near Hatteras, I usually hit a campground in the area.

You can find out a lot of good info here: www.ncbba.org

That sounds like portsmouth island, is that the same place? went there about 2 or 3 years ago, it was about a 45min to 1hr fary ride over and when you get over than you are there. We was there the weekend APP beat Michigan in football. They ran a gen to the cabin's for like 8hrs at night.

don't know the island name. Same island Cape Lookout Lighthouse is on...

Ocracoke, hands down. As close to paradise on earth as far as I'm concerned.

I was thinking ocracoke too. Went there a while back but don't remember any camp sites. Is there a particular one thata best?

Hatteras. Check this out for current access. http://www.islandfreepress.org/CatBeachAccessIssues.html.

My .02 the OBX isnt for wheeling as we are facing the same if not worse type of BS shutdowns other OHV areas are. Stay off the dunes, out of the bird areas and dont be an idiot. HAve fun in heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
