I know this will turn into a Ford/Dodge/Chevy/Jeep/Toyota kind of debate, but I am looking for opinions. Hell, we might learn something.

I will be needing tires on my truck soon. Right now I have Michelin LTX MS2s. Truck is 2007 Tundra double cab 4x4. The most "off road" this poor TRD sees is the campground behind the Dairy Hut a couple times a year. Towing is really minimal right now - usually only 5 or 6 times per year with at most 7000 lbs.

I feel that tires are one of the few things that you really get what you pay for. I am not afraid of dropping some coin on GOOD tires because they will last longer than cheap crap.

Now for some opinions.

Same thing I have - Michelin LTX MS2s
Michelin LTX AT
Toyo Open Country AT2
Nitto Terra Grappler
Nitto Dura Grappler

What else is a good, durable tire for a 7400 pound truck?

I love my trail grapplers on the excurison, i have about 15k on them and the look new.

I'm still partial to the bfg at. The ones on my excursion have 10k+ and look new. They have performed well in every situation I've put them in.

Have trail grapplers on the 07 in my signature. Have about 30k on them and wearing great. Expect to get at least 10k more out of them.

I've ran many different tires on my diesel tow rig. The current pro comp xat's that are on it now have impressed me the most in every aspect. This is the only tire I'll buy again. I've ran Michelin, coopers, nittos, bfg's and some I can't remember.

Got Terra Grapplers on a 99 Tahoe and my brother has Dura Grapplers on his 04 2500 crew cab Cummins. Honestly not impressed with the tread life on either tire.

i have had Toyo Open Country AT2, & now have BFG's AT
the Toyo rode better but i think the bfg's are going to last longer as i have around 18k on them now & they still look new

Thanks for the responses so far. I dont know why I left the BFG ATs off the list. I have run those for a couple years before on a pickup and liked them. Got them used and sold them with some life still on them.

I really like the look of the trail grapplers but cant see the need for a m/t on a 99% highway vehicle that is bone stock.

What size tire are we talking about here? I'm assuming it's something like an 18" rim, so almost any tire is going to be kind of expensive!

I like Cooper AT3s. BFG ATs are always a decent choice, but they seem over priced. Not sure how they compare in price, but the BFG Rugged Terrain will last a while too.

Big fan of Terra Grapplers. Talk about a tire that last! My company truck (F350 powerstroke) has a set with well over 50k on them. They are bald now and about to be replaced but have lasted well. I also know of several others with a ton of miles on these tires.

Also, the life of tires greatly depends on keeping rotation and tire pressure in check. Too many people slap on a set if tires, never check the pressure and rarely rotate. Then complain that they wore uneven or too fast.

i rotate mine every 3k & check the pressure ever week

I usually rotate every oil change (helps to kill the time while the oil drains). I also keep good check on pressure.

Size I am running now is 275 65 18.

Another vote for the Procomp Extreme AT's here. They've got a 50K mile treadwear warranty and I've read reviews of people getting around 70K out of them under a diesel truck. Mine have around 40K on them and easily have that much more left in them. They're quiet on the road and I've taken the truck with my heavy trailer through mud that I had no business being near. Very impressed with these and plan on buying them again once I wear these out. I have 285/70R17's under a 3/4 ton Dodge diesel for a reference.

Huge fan of the Michelin LTX At/2s.
60k mile tread life warranty.
I put 60k on my last set and they were on there when I bought the truck 20k on the current set and they look new.

This is on a 7,300 lb 250 diesel.
Smooth ride, silent and hold their own in wet grass dont pick up gravel and have a good weight rating.

So far I've been please w/ my Dura Grapplers. I've probably got 15k on them and don't seem to be wearing to bad. All of them are even too. They are 10x's better than the Firestones I had on it before.
My truck weighs right at 9500 lbs.

@lockedup5 What do you drive that weighs 9500lbs?! An Abrams tanks?

Four Terra Grapplers in 285/70/17 here. About 40k on them so far, about half of that loaded to 11.5 (5k front, 6.5k rear). They're getting down there now, but I should be able to get one more summer out of them.

The 285 Nittos and Michelins are the only 3750# rated 17s, as far as I know.

Edit: can't find a Michelin rated that high anymore...

Yeah the AT/2s dropped the weight a smidge.

Think they are 3550 or 3600 now too lazy to look

It's seriously 9500 empty? Wow...that's crazy.

The 11.00R-16 Michelin XZLs on my K30 are rated at 4805 lbs per tire. Not a viable option, but it's nice that they are since it's the only truck I ever haul anything with.

Cant beat the bfg tako for everyday use and heavy towing .

For a mt option the toyo mt is a stout long lasting mt.
Ive ran them both and love them ill run the toyo mt on my dually when they are nolonger backordered

sent by telegraph from my k30

I've always been a fan of the BFG A/T. They worked well on my F250 and I'd buy them again. But, for a 99% highway rig, I'd likely steer away from an AT unless you want that "look".
