i took the gas tank out of my 22re runner and all the fuel lines drained, now i dont know the best way to prime the system. i ran the starter a few times about 10 seconds or less each time, but it still hasent primed up. i dont wanna burn the starter up, any suggestions?

"Open the diagnostic connector under the hood, it's located near the passenger side of the engine near the battery, with the key on place a small jumper wire between the terminals Fp+E1, does the fuel pump run when doing this and does the engine start? "

something I gleaned off the web, I have used this before to check and prime fuel system.

if I remember right, the fuel pump doesn't energize until the vain in the MAF moves off the stop while air is moving by it whhile cranking. if the MAF is not connected, you will not get fuel at all.

i jumped those two terminals and i dont think anything happened. will i be able to hear the fuel pump, or feel the lines vibrating? can i just hook 12v straight to the fuel pump harness? if i can do that, is it possible to over prime it and cause damage when i start it? thanks, and btw, did u know that runner has had a right rear quarter pannel put on it at sometime, i found that out when i cut the fenders.

you should fella little vibration, but maybe not. rear of the fuel rail, you will find the pressure regularotr, pull the return line off, and see if there is any fuel flowing when you repeat this.

Quite honestly, the age of the truck wouldn't surprise me if the pump went south on ya, I know I never ran it dry, but I can't speak of previous owner(s) ( toy pumps are usually pretty tough) It was always something in the back of my mind though.

I knew the truck had been painted, but I never really looked any further into it. I bought it from my sister, who bought it Nebraska used in 1996, by the time I got it in '03, it was pretty well eaten up with rust, and I had visions of cutting it up in a similar fasion, so it never bothered me, the plus was that the AC worked ( kick ass at that ) and that it had 4 doors.

ok, i messed with it some more today. im not getting any voltage to the pump, but i can hook 12v to it and get it to work. and i still cant get it to work by jumping those terminals under the hood. what exactly is it suposed to bypass by jumping those terminals?

have you messed with the air box and mass air flow meter at all ?

If the MAF isn't plugged in or wired correctly, the flapper will not send signal to start fuel flow. Also, if the intake tubes between throttle body and MAF are not connected, it will not run as there is no air flow to move the flapper in the MAF ( which turns on the fuel pump )

i havent messed with any of that stuff, and its all still hooked up. it was working fine before i dropped the tank. all the fuses are fine. where is the fuel pump relay located?

well i figured it out today. i feel stupid, but while i was building my crossmembers i unpluged the harness that goes through the floor behind the drivers seat and tucked it up out of the way so it didnt get messed up. that harness just happens to power the fuel pump. i guess i tucked it up too far out of the way and forgot about it. dumb, but im glad thats all it was.

OOPS ! hate when I do that !!

it happens to the best of us.
