I'm getting more serious about replacing my current truck. Craigslist seems like it has almost died with respect to 2500 trucks posted for sale. I see a lot of talk about Facebook Marketplace being where most of the action is nowadays. Is that the best place to search for a used truck? I'm mostly leaning towards finding a 3-6 yr old 2500 Chevy 4x4 gas truck. I don't have a FB account, but did sign up yesterday (Currently waiting for my profile to be approved).

Unfortunately FB marketplace IS where it's at

That, and a lot of FB groups and local "yardsale" groups. It's kind of odd what people will post on, say "Wallburg yardsale group" that won't post in the regular marketplace. Maybe scared to post on such a broad spectrum?!

The BEST bet is to sick @77GreenMachine on it...that dude can find a needle in a haystack on FB marketplace

yep facebook market place. its okay. if you search for something specific like chevy 2500 for whatever reason it will pull a few that are close then some that are far away and on down the page there will be more local to you. they dont sort based on distance from what ive found.

marketplace search will also pull some stuff from groups your not part of and you may have to become a member of group to contact the owner.

Craigslist started charging for car adds from owners so that's what stopped Craigslist and probably a nail in their coffin.

FBMP for sure. Give us some specifics of what you're looking for and maybe we can help you out. I'm on there nearly daily looking around for ish.

Hey, thanks! I'm thinking about a 3-6 yr old Chevy/GMC 2500 4x4, 4 door, short bed, gas truck. Color doesn't matter. Don't want a bare bones work truck model, but don't really want the fully decked out high end one either.

It has been over 24 hrs, and my FB profile hasn't been approved. That might be because I used a fake name, LOL.

Market Place or truck specific Buy/sell groups. I’ll plug what I’m looking for in to autotrader/car gurus/cars.com and I have buddies that have had good luck with carvana buys, and your year range should work well for those sites.

Marketplace for sure. It’s just easier so everyone posts there. Autotrader is oddly enough still very active, and will lend you some nicer stuff as it’s usually posted by either a dealer, or someone who has really cared for a vehicle and taken the time to list it in the proper place. And Autotrader has all the search features.

But there’s boatloads of trucks posted on FBMP.

As for your FB account, they check that stuff pretty thoroughly, to make sure you’re not a creeper or spam, so you might not get approved.

Another thing that people over look is the willingness to travel for the right deal. The particular truck you want might be available here but could be found in a much bigger truck market in say, Texas or Oklahoma or xyz at a much better price even including a one way plane ticket to go get it and drive it home. Just a thought though.

Autotrader is a great source of you want to find a real ad with the specs you want at a fair price. The best deals come from @cass92lx50 but he doesn't mess much with Chevy's or newer trucks. 2nd cheapest will be FB or CL, but there's a lot more riff Raff to sort through, and the search parameters on autotrader are hard to beat.

Thanks for the tips!

I don't really want to fly and drive a truck back. I guess that means I won't get the best deal. I just don't want to get a shitty deal. Whatever truck I buy will likely be driven for 10+ yrs.

I found this truck local using traderonline, but the price seems too high.

If you are looking that new and that price range dont discount laura gmc.
I know you just said dont want to fly....but...

What if you could get a 2020 new less than what you posted:
New Onyx Black 2020 GMC Sierra 2500HD for sale in St Louis at Laura Buick GMC

Dad just bought a duramax denali and they smoked everyone local by over $10k.
They picked him up at the airport and between the drive to the dealership, the paperwork and the demo he said it was less than 90 minutes including 45 minutes in a car there...

I've also been known to wrap vehicle purchases in to family vacations (take a rental if you don't want two vehicles). Usually drive, usually under 800 miles...so open a search up with a 500 mile search radius. I'll generally ignore anything north of Virginia due to volume of salt usage. Florida is usually a decent area for private sales...old people, low miles. If you know of any old people in retirement communities down there, you can probably get a good deal too. About once a month I'll have a conversation with my grandfather if anyone has died recently in their community and if he can get me pics of what they drove...I've bought a few Grand Marquis(es-what's the plural of Marquis???) and Lincoln's that way.

I cant believe it was even possible to make the new 2020 hds that ugly. I thought they had a beautiful truck before the major change.

Well, FB denied my profile, LOL. I guess I will have to use my real name if I want to join. I used to have a FB account many years ago, but shut it down because it got hacked 2 or 3 times and the last time I got locked out of my email.

The Chevy ones are even worse. The first time a commercial came on my wife busted out laughing, she thought it was a joke.

You don’t have to fly to get it. They will ship it to you. I did my deal contingent on final inspection and acceptance at delivery. They delivered to me while working out of town and even took my old truck and dropped it off at my house 3 hours away.

super easy.

Now when I look for a vehicle, I look there first.

Drove down to GA to get mine (also found on FBMP)

As said by others, if your considering that used truck in that price range I would be looking at a new one. I bought my 2019 Chevy 2500 new for not much more than that from Dan Cummins Chevy in Kentucky.

I found my truck on car gurus, went to Florida to get it. Found several on FBMP and auto trader that were close to what I wanted, but I was super picky so I had to look farther than my normal range.
