I picked up an 82 3/4 ton Suburban off the forum a while back to tow my Jeep around. It's ugly, rusty, smelly, old and drives my HOA crazy :flipoff2: It's got a 350 motor, granny 4 speed, and 14 bolt ff. I'm making some changes to it so I figured I'd start a build to track my progress.

Unfortunately, I didn't take any pics when I first got it. The two front windows were missing and a rear side window busted. After a few trips to junkyards, I rounded up all the replacement glass I needed. Here's a pic after cleaning it up really well and replacing and tinting the windows:

I drove it around a little bit over the next few months and the 350 just became more and more tired, struggling to move even it's own weight. I knew attempting to tow with it wouldn't be fun. I tried polishing it a little, with a tune up and a new intake and carb, but it was no use. This left me with two options, rebuild the little 350 or upgrade.

And now the fun part...I've had a weakness for displacement ever since I was a teenager. I decided the replacement would be a big block. After finding a suitable core, I sent it off to Boyette's Machine shop while I spent a few months collecting parts.

Finally, I collected all the parts to build my new 468. Here's the pile of parts so far. (yes that's my kitchen..the joy of being single

More to come as I upload the pics of the rebuild....

Oh how I love big blocks:D Burbans are the redneck party wagon, anything you could ever want to do on the road you can do in a burban. Gonna be running carb or efi on the 468?

The only thing that would have been cooler (gas motor wise anyway) would have been an 8.1 Vortec. Rock the fawk on with that 468 though! They're sweet for sure.

I love the blue on white scheme too. My dad's 85 K10 and a buddy's 84 Burb are the same color.

Go ahead and slap on some hydroboost, toss in an NV4500, and hook a trailer to it!

Going to be running a Holley Street Avenger for now. This burban is really basic, manual everything, etc and I really like the simplicity of it. I want to keep it as simple as possible so I'm going to start with a carb. If the mileage is unbearable, I'll look into efi then.

Made a bit of progress on the motor.
The short block together:

Stock peanut port heads for low end torque, freshened up with new Ferrea valves:

Almost a long block:

That old blue and white burb takes me down memory lane. My Papaw had one when I was a kid that looked just like it. I'm jealous.:)

Finally had a chance to make a little more progress on the motor. Hopefully will get to drop it in next week.
