i want to black out my tail lights but i dont want to buy the covers. how bout putting window tint on them? any suggestions?

Do you really want to be less visible when you are braking, or driving at night or in the rain/fog? Also highly diminishes your backup lights. I say leave em stock.

I 100% agree with you on that.

But I did once read about a guy that had used (and correct me if this is wrong) black tinted clear coat? like a candy to black out his fog lights. Now that was over a clear lens not a red one so I'm not exactly sure what you would end up with. but it's a thought.

I think the best thing to do would be buy the covers. I can assure you that it will cause you problems if you paint them. If it was a show vehicle I say go for it but a DD is just asking for trouble.

I tinted mine a couple of years ago on a VW(in New York), used I believe duplicolor balck out paint. Need to wet sand the lenses then use light coates. Also taped off reverse light section to keep it clear.

If anything get the tinted covers so you can take them off to pass inspection each year or just leave the lights alone so people have a better chance of seeing you. With all the idiots on the road nowadays distracted by all their high tech gizmos and whatever else, why give them any more of a reason not to see your lights and wind up buried in the ass end of your Jeep?

Plus, they look gay as fuck anyway.

Glass houses my friend..glass houses....prerun that thing much???

Look, there is a taillight tint in a spray can. You can make them as light or dark as you want. Meanstreet Motorsport sells it. A lot of guys like the tinted taillight look. But like others have said good luck getting it to pass state inspection. Some people have masked off their backup light section of the lens so you don't lose the light. OR you can get on ebay and search Lamin-x. They make TONS of stick on taillight tint products... Expensive though... But not too dark.

wats with the damn pictures of the trucks? and i just asked for ppls suggestions on what i should do. not whether you though they were "gay as fuck". have some class

Have you thought about a kill switch for the lights instead ... just thinkin' out loud.

I still think there gay (The covers),

But hey its not my jeep

Edit: Before you come back with "I don't like them either, Thats why I am tinting them", I won't call that as gay, I still don't like it, Still not my jeep

i must be confused... i thought this was noobie tech, no flaming? he does not want to know about your sexual preferences.
