Blend Door Actuator?

I know this is indirectly related to the topic, it this is my tow rig... will that count? It’s also 4x4.

2012 F150 5.0 XLT

HVAC blows cold regardless of temp setting on the dial (manual). I’m thinking it’s the blend door actuator. Am I on the right track? Fan blows as expected. With the radio off and fan on low, I can hear the actuator motor turning as I rotate temp from hot to cold. I can get it to blow hot occasionally, but not consistent.

My next guess is a broken blend door pin which is a bigger pain to fix.

Any advice or thoughts? Digging into this tomorrow b/c it’s getting cold out there!

Thanks in advance!

I had a 2002 Grand Cherokee with the same symptoms. The blend door is plastic, and where the plastic blend door attaches to the motor shaft is also plastic. It eventually breaks. This was 10 years ago at least, but I bought a blend door from a company, I think it was called Heater Treater. Their blend door was all metal. It even came with a drimel cutting blade to cut through the duct to get to where the blend door is without having to disassemble the entire dash. They had videos showing where to cut and how to do it all on their website.
God luck!

Check out some of the F0150 forums and get the actuator off of eBay. I put in the OEM after a rock auto one did not work. Easy fix just pull out the glove box.

I made a ton of $$$ replacing those doors on WJs back in my dealer tech days!

Local parts joint sold me the wrong actuator... ran down to Crossroads Ford and snagged the oem part for $5 less.

60 minute job with no broken dash trim or busted knuckles. Not horrible... hope it’s fixed. Time will tell.

Thanks for the replies and guidance.
