Boatsiding inquiry

A lot of the boatside jobs I have seen strictly use tube, rather than tubing it up and covering it, acting like a slider. Any method to the madness here? Seems that would be like dragging a ladder across rocks, rather than a board.

it might be the avoidance of the extra 50 lb on each side, and the entrapment of mud and what not on top of them... but thats pure speculation

It just seems kind of contradictive to the idea that you would go through the effort of boatsiding and not finish it off so you can at least slide off of rocks rather than get hung on them.

I agree with your train of thought..

Mine isn't nearly as extreme as some, but the clearance in itself is a huge help to not even drag across the rocks you would already have gotten hung on before.

I suppose I'll skin it once I get hung there more.

most of what you typically see over here though is mainly rocker protection... a lot of the guys out west do more extreme boatsiding...
