I have a engine that id like to use, but it has a BOP bolt pattern on it. Just wondering if anyone knows if and how i can adapt this to a Chevy tranny, preferably SM465 or 420?

Ive seen the adapters for the autos but dunno if you can space the clutch off the flywheel like you can a TC...

You'll actually space the flywheel off the back of the crank, to cover the gap of the adapter. Not spacing the clutch away from the flywheel.

The actual adapter (BOP to Chevy) would probably be the same as for an auto, just the flywheel spacer and clutch linkage issues may be the the largest obstacle to work out ( if using mechanical)

the flywheel has to do with the balance of the motor, therefore as long as the engine had a manual tranny option from the factory it should ness need a custom tranny... hence why a caddy motor would require one...

lol, not quite sure what you were trying to say there, but the adapter will work for manual/automatic. As far as the flywheel I know that the 500's/472/(and i think 425) only came with automatics, I could be wrong but thats what all the dude's on coloradock5 were sayin when I was first reasearchin the motors because I was origionally gonna try and run a sm465 behind my 500 but changed my mind due to the price of the custom flywheel from cad500parts.com plus I prefer automatics myself. But, like I said as far as I know I think you have to get that custom flywheel to run a manual behind the BOP engine.

yeah i know the adapter will work for either...

i was just sayin that you were right about the caddy motor needing a custom flywheel... but if a motor had a manual tranny behind it from the factory, then it wont require a custom flywheel... which is my situation... of course that is sayin that the clutch for the SM465 will bolt up to the flywheel...
