Sometimes when I'm coming to a stop, the pedal feels like it is pulsing and goes down closer to the floor. When it begins that, if I pump the brake pedal, it stops better. No signs of brake fluid leaking out. Could this be brake fluid leaking backwards past the piston in the master cylinder?

Could be an ABS problem. But I would check your wheel bearings. I had a ram a few years ago that had the same problem and it was from the unit bearings being worn out and letting the wheel and rotor wobble in the caliper. It makes the pads spread apart which in turn makes the pedal have to travel further to squeeze the rotor.

Thanks, I had not even considered the wheel bearings. I'll jack it up and see if the wheels shake. If it is the wheel bearings, is that hub assembly pressed into the knuckle, or will it be easy to get out?

Probably need a smaller puller to get it off without damaging the stub shaft threads though I have gotten them off before with other methods.

How about a leak in the vacuum from the brake booster? Pulsing does sound like something possibly warped or out of alignment though. I'd jack it up and check the unit hubs anyway. I replaced one this afternoon AAMOF :)
