Bridge??? Pics added

Anyone on here have a creek in thier driveway that has a bridge over it. It doesnt matter who built it I need some pics. Any opinion is needed. The creek is dry 7 months out of the year. What I have now is a mess and time to do something different. The creek is 3' wide and 3' deep with average 3" of water. I'm shooting for about 20'Lx10'W. Only problem is in the summer when it becomes 4' deep from sudden thunder storms.

1st pic you can see where water a month ago push away land timbers
2nd pic is a truckoad of topsoil used to be
3rd pic look how much is missing from the right side from the last flood

You don't need a bridge. Just buy a General Lee and watch old Dukes of Hazard episodes to see how it is done. Shouldn't take more than a week or two and you will have the technique down. The secret is to mentally commit to clearing the gap as you approach the ramp. That was Roscoe's problem. He could never fully commit.

Anchored culvert with dirt on top?

Drive way is 800 feet long. From start to end its around 12-14 drop in the middlle. Il have pics up tonight. I know every episode of the dukes(sad I know) yj and a JK wont make it.

It is just too much of a drop to dig out and drive across

You've already got a good pipe in there, why waste time and ALOT of money on a bridge? Just add a headwall and good concrete for your drive at the crossing. Have it so there's some sort of way to overflow and not erode your drive. Could just use heavy rip-rap on your drive. But DEFINATELY some sort of headwall.

My opinion. Either way, looks like when she flows she flows and your days are numbered before someone turns over!

It appears that your problem is not the creek crossing itself but the way that water drains down the driveway into the creek. I'd suggest a better drainage setup with runoff paths for your driveway and a load of Rip Rap spread between both ends of the pipe to stabilize the ground that is there. The bridge is a cool idea but isn't really necessary. The ends of it would get washed out just the same from the driveway runoff, then you'd have a bigger mess.

Although you could fortify your castle and build a drawbridge :bounce2:

if you look at the last pic the bottom half is starting to rust away. There is no problem with the water going down the driveway. The water stays to the left of it and runs out through the woods and back to creek.

Your problem is the dirt, you need rock on the up side and down.
First would be a small load of rock 57 or bigger then a load of rip-rap. You can put all the dirt you want at it and it willl wash away you nee larger rocks.
If you for real have 3 Feet of water running there you need a pipe that will have about 50% out of the water in full run off.
Your pipe is to small. And no I did not talk to your girl friend......

I believe he is saying the drop TO the creek is 3 feet...

the creek its self is only 3" deep...

Buy a Bronco and just cross it. 4' isn't that bad as long as you have a good snorkle.

We have a 6' colvert pipe with surge rock on each end and it's been there for as long as we know. probably 1-2 foot deep with surge rock, which are anywhere from 10" 12" across. thats a cheap and sure fire way to do it right.

Yeah the bridge idea is way to much work. I called a few contractors around raleigh to get prices. Anyone on hauls rock?

if you keep the pipe you need to make sure you compact the dirt around it and it needs to be brought up high enough that the water dont run over top of it when it floods.put 6 inches of crusher run (gravel with aggraget) over that ,seal it (smooth drum roller or even with your truck just want to roll it in so it seals off water from turning it to mush) you might want to put a bigger pipe if it floods as bad as you say.

How quickly does it drain after the thunder storms? You say it is dry 7 months and typically 3". This is a prime candidate for a fording if it drains quickly.
