What common parts have you saw broken/go bad(by brand) while wheelin.I'm not talking about a johnny joint or anything exotic but common stuff like Toy burfields,ps hoses, starters, alts, ect. I know their is always a bunch of driveshafts/joint's that bite the dust.

Jeep Wrangler/Cherokee parts:

*Dana 30 axle shafts, ball joints and 760 u-joints
*Dana 35 axle shafts
*Stock tie rods
*stock control arms

carnage on my '77 CJ-7...
  • 2 sets of factory manual steering box brackets ripped off
  • D30 3.55 R&P
  • a few sets of factory and OEM style motor mounts, a tranny mount
  • AMC 20 stock 2 piece shafts, spun the hub
  • D30 with assorted brands of 260x U-joints breaking, taking out a few stock shafts
  • D30 ball joint, cheapest value line @ NAPA lasted under 2 years
  • pretzeled factory rear driveshaft
  • AMC 20 widetrack axle housing, bent tubes
  • frame, various cracks, and rear spring hanger pulled off

Any jeep steering. Period. The lamest excuse for a tie rod I've ever seen. Driveline U joint straps. :)shaking) e2000 pumps are hit or miss depending on how they're setup. Heep CPS and NSS. Optima batteries-- the most expensive pieces of shit I've seen, at least in the last 4 years. Dana 35's.

I've got a stack of Toyota R&P. 5 sets to be exact 2-5.71 for ifs front end
3-5.29 8" all different brands and one set was cryo'd. My old rig was too heavy and a warped carrier didn't help the casue.
Seen assload of brakelines cut. 2 autozone alts on buddys rig and a longfield stub.

Warn Hubs on almost everything
U Joint Straps
Pyukon shafts
AutoZone/Advance Starters and Alternators
Toyota R&P's are hit or miss, usually grenade in heavier rigs and survive just fine in lighter ones.

Jeep :

Dana 35 - Eploded the Spider gears! Wasn't lucky enough just to break an axle:poop:

- Broke rear drive shaft in half

Dana 30 - Ripped off both stock lower control arm mounts.

Autozone fuel pump crapped out twice

I'll have to agree with braxton on the the optima and the warn hubs. I'm on the 3rd optima in the past year in my scout from advance. Warn hubs won't handle the abuse my mile markers have.

Practically anything drivetrain-wise from a 1/2 ton GM
Stock t-case torque arms, birfs, rear wheel bearings, shifter bushings, and axleshafts on Samurai's
Autocraft, Duralast, Everstart, ACDelco batteries
Pretty much everything ever returned to Advance Auto in the short time I've been working there...

1310 u joints......

Toyota T case 21 spline inputshaft

Batteries in general

To add and not duplicate
Dana 300 case split in half, friend of mine
Dana 300 rear out-put, one of mine, and two others that belonged to friends
U-joints of every size
CV's, stock FSJ type, also XJ types
Drive shaft tube, but fixed that by running schedule 40 pipe for shafts
Rag joints in steering
Power steering braces, but a simple brace eliminates that
Tires ripped, a wire stitch kit, a boot, and a tube would save a weekend.
Heim joints, always carry spares
winch cables(always carry fixes for that.
Fuses of all types and sizes

Sounds like you are trying to put together a crash box of parts to get people going while on the trails???

Kinda,I was wondering what the most common stuff was.I carry alot with me now and it seems that about every trip somebody is diggin outta my box.I don't have a problem with it since I have needed stuff in the past myself.Usally you can go to the jy and get all the fuses and relays you can get in your pockets for a few bucks.I have a gallon coffee can I fill up for $3-$4.

I been pretty lucky so far and other than breakin the steering box off at Harlan, and a 30 spline stub and lockout I haven't had anything major, unless you count body damage.

broke

I broke the spot welds on the back of my chevy cab at tellico. It fell back and pulled the steering, and wires loose. one big rock and a few tie downs later back at camp:beer::beer::Rockon:
