Ive got these bugs around my house and shed, they look like mini scorpions but have these claw type pinchers things coming out of their ass - I had heard someone mention a water bug but I dont know their real name. No matter what i do I cant get rid of them, does anyone know what they are and know what kind of pet safe killer to rid them?

So far, Sevin Dust kills anything I've ever tried it on. I'll google for a minute to look for the bug. I think I know what you're talking about.

Ok, I think what you're seeing is called an Earwig.

Edit #2: FWIW, sevin is safe for pets. We actually used to dust our dogs when the ticks and fleas would get really bad.

thanks i just found it. I googled it for like 20 minutes - I had no idea what they heck they were called. They are tearing up my flower garden and are invading my shed.

I put "bugs pinchers on back" into the google search and found that right off. lol
Hit them with some sevin with a duster and you'll be good to go.

buuuhhhhh EARWIGS!

I HATE those freakin things!

A common place to find these are in really old books, they seem to like to eat the paper.

As such, a wet news paper rolled up around your plants will attract the bugs. Simply trash the paper and your done. Just keep doing it till they are gone.

Huh? That assumes they aren't breeding elsewhere and that you are attracting 100% of them. Why wouldn't their offsping, and those offspring, just keep coming?

FWIW, i have had very good luck just relying on a local pest control service (around here, it's Brown's). the quarterly payments are less than the time I'd spend messing w/ it myself.

I've been paranoid of those thing since my house back in Va got invaded by them.
Had Orkin, they were failing.
Put my shoes on one day with no socks, in a hurry to walk the dog. One of those bastards was in the shoe.
Pincher went right between the big toe and toenail.
Down I went, shoe came flying off and I could see it twitching and destroying my toe. :(
I was screaming like a little girl.
Declared full on war, got a local exterminator on monthly contract. He took care of em.
Had monthly service ever since.
I use Clegg's down here. Main thing is to make sure you get someone doing your house who will take it personal if bugs start coming in the house. :D

It's just the time of year for them. In a few weeks you won't notice them unless its and infestation. Then it's time for pros.

I didnt realize they were elsewhere besides around the plants.

But yeah i guess an exterminator is a better plan..

5 percent 7 dust is safe on pets, 10 percent not so much
Not sure what it was, it was a long time ago. All of the dogs lived long lives though.

Growing up, my family usually had a pretty big garden. Dad always dusted everything with sevin. I can't tell you how many tomatos I've eaten straight out of the garden after wiping them on my shirt a little. I wonder how much sevin dust I've eaten im my lifetime.LOL

What I was saying was sevin dust comes in two different types. 5% and 10% (might be more then that, but that is all I know of)

Normally when you apply the dust directly to the animal you want to use the 5% version. I am not saying you can not use 10% on an animal, I just do not feel it as safe, it can cause skin problems/rashes. plus there skin absorbs the dust, just like with some flea collars. 10% might be to concentrated

I understand what you were saying and I'm certainly not trying to argue about something I know very little about.:)

I was simply trying to joke about how I'm pretty sure I've eaten a little in my younger days. Probably 5% stuff since I'm not too abnormal.

im going to try and find the 5% seven dust tonight. I went into my shed to get my lawn mower last night and they were all over the place. To bad I cant charge those bitches rent. I do have dogs, so im going to try te 5% stuff and see if it helps. If not Ill just call someone.

Wow those things look viscious.. I cant beleive i havent seen one! And yea i was about to mention the urban legend of those going in your ears.. I didnt think they could actually pinch too hard with those things.. Course i know little to nothing bout these critters!
