Working on cburgins house remodel. We've gotta run cable for his tv. He's not set on cable or sat at this point. But, we wanna make sure we aren't boxed in when he does decide.

I have hd direct w/ dvr and have 2 cables coming in at the box.

Basicly, do we need to pull 2 cables for each tv?

I would pull a siamese coax to every tv. Also if you are at it, maybe pull a cat5 to each as well.

if you ever plan on putting a Directv DVR in any room its gonna need two cables. One for each tuner in the reciever. IMHO Id go ahead and run two to each room if you got it apart and have easy access in the walls. Fishing dualcoax isnt fun. I think cable tv DVR's only need 1 cable and are split at the reciever.

My Dish Network box used a single cable, but had some type of splitter for the DVR. Two cables to each TV would be wise to make sure you have no issues in the future. Also, I don't think satellite can be wired in a serial loop and it's one cable per LNB. Cable can be put in a loop and should only need one cable per TV.

Run 2 RG6 coax's to each tv, home runs no looping them with spliters, it degrades the signal. I would defintely run cat5e to each also and to any location you may want a desktop at. Run all to spot you can mount spliter and router. At&t will be coming out with U-verse tv and the set tops run off of cat52 wiring best. Have spot you think the dish would be mounted? Have RG6's run there or just make sure have access to be able to get them there.

Cool, thanks for the help. I don't think cat5 is necessary as all he will ever run is laptop wirelessly. Is there any other reason for it?

The Satellite receivers often times have ethernet ports on them, and as they add more and more interactive functions... Network cable is ALWAYS a good thing to have run - Could also be used for home automation if desired..etc, etc etc..

PPV and internet streaming. Most every DVR, Blu-Ray, and TV made nowadays has a RJ45 jack on the back of it. The satellite box will require ethernet or telephone.

I install TV's,Surrounds and Theaters for a living. You can check out some pics at http://home.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=home
I agree with basically everything that has been said. You are gonna want to have 2 R6's and internet at every TV,plus Every Location that there might be a Sat Box or equipment.TV's and Blu Rays both take frequent updates and are both usually ready to stream movie's via netflix or another service.I would also run speaker wire to any room you have access to,looping it through Volume Controls.Whole House Audio is very popular for re sale value as well as just nice to have.I have 3 plasmas and a 120 inch theater in my house and I listen to the in ceiling speakers I have playing music way more often than watch TV.I would also consider a 4 conductor speaker wire in the attic and crawl as well as 2 spare rg6's and cat 6's in both locations. That will go a long way in future proofing.Anyways if you have any questions feel free to call me at 919-282-4315,I have been doing this 10+ years and am always happy to help out a fellow Wheeler.

Ohhhhh And one control wire like a 18/4 is very inexpensive and can be used later for an RCA ballen or to pass IR if you plan to have a TV where the equipment will be remotely located in a closet or cabinet.Again, feel free to call.

While you're at it, build you a wiring closet to centralize all these connections. Be sure to install a dehumidifier and A/C unit. Might be a good idea to install water sensors on the floor too. Don't forget a UPS. hehehe

All great ideas here! The wallet is your only limit!

HAHA, you guys are nuts.

The walls are still up, so we're fishing. He just wants what is nessiary. Most of the wire will be ran outside of the house, we are just getting the main stuff done while we can still patch holes if nessiary.

I actualy have 500' of cat6 here from rewiring our network, so that is easy.

That should do it for basic usage with some room for growth I would think.

If money was no object, I'm sure he'd like to have a fluxcapacitor as well:)

We'll do the 2 of the r6 wire, the combined kind if we can find it. (Lowes?) Don't wanna go all over the place to do this and don't need much of it.

Maybe do the

I got about 250' of dual rg6 if you need any... Ima be going towards Chlt tomorrow on 77 around 3 or so if you want it I can meet you with it I dont need it anymore.....

I drill a 1/2" hole in the floor at an angle 1/2 into the molding and floor. I got tired of never having the cable outlet be in the right spot. Then home run it where ever you want. I think setting up a closet as the 'network closet' really makes sense these days. Basically wire in an outlet. Thought watch the heat buildup..

I do work for a lot of people in Raleigh,Canes player, ect. You hit the nail right on the Head, your waller is the only limit,I was just trying to give some ideas. There is no time better than when the walls are all tore up to get some future wiring put in.

if you need the coax tools, punch down for the cat6 jacks or rj45 crimper you can borrow mine.
you could always use those twist on gold coax connectors

Youd be amazed at how many "professional installs" I had to do service calls on that had those...

Actualy, we are going to pull the cable and not hook it up. When they come to do the install we'll have the installer do that. From my understanding, they only charge when they have to do complex installs.

thats why I have a 6' 1/2" flex bit....hit it in the wall and bend it where you want it...takes time and practice but you'll never have to see it.

Yeah they should be happy as hell they dont have to run any wire, I know I would be
