I just bought my first FSJ yesterday after waiting many years for the right one to pop up.

What I am looking for are some favorite part suppliers for resto parts and vendors that specialize in Quality parts for a good price. From your experience which forums have the best info on these trucks??

for starters I am trying to find which resitance does the factory gas guage/sending unit operate at. A GM is on 0-90OHM for instance.

where can i get a good deal on carpet, random weatherstripping and other dash stuff. I can get crown at work but that still wont cover everything.

Yes I used Google, there is just not a lot out there for these.

BJ's offroad is awesome for parts and what ever you need, also if you go onto ebay and type in grand wagoneer youll find all kinds of stuff.

I've never actually restored any of mine, just tried to keep them running (which was a full-time job).

As mentioned before, BJ's is FSJ first as far as their customer base and both owners are FSJ enthusiasts.

Marsh's auto salvage in Siler City used to have over 100 FSJ's but sometimes they thought stuff was made of gold.

JW jeep in Cali has a lot, but is pricey

Z&M jeep parts has some cool aftermarket parts like HEI, radiators, and wiring harnesses

T&T fabworks makes a one-stop shopping SOA/Shackle flip kit.

That ought to get you started.

I am gonna bet you bought either the 83 cherokee with the 383, or the waggy with the 401. Both are nice. I passed on the waggy from the PO before your seller since I didn't need a "project". I think you did well either way if you bought one of those two.

I bought the 82 cherokee chief with a 383 stroker and the older grille, off the board. this thing is super clean but many small parts got lost in the restoration.

It looks like the one in 4x4fevers sig.

the short list is now:
carpet
console
dash knobs

some misc window seals

Also, I put a new seal in the power rear window and now the window wont go all the way up. about halofwayit labors and stops b/c the seal is too tight ont he window. Any suggestions?????

Also there seems to be a large hole (1 inch in diameter) in the top of the platic fuel tank. I am trying to figure out what went there? maybe a fuel vent plug type adapter or ????????
I could use some better wiring diagrams too. I about rewired the whole truck over the weekend and only have a few unknown wires mainly a large red and large yellow under the dash tied together, stereo maybe but they are heavy guage.

Since you mention this, the jeep gods did smile upon me when my sending unit failed...in my '90 gooner (long gone, but wish I kept it)...sending unit is accessible via an access cover riveted in the rear floor under the carpet beneath the back seat. I was fixin' to pull the tank, found that time-saver on ifsja. Why can't all the automakers do simple stuff like that to make life easier?

Yeah, I found that and rewired the sending unit. Haynes was good for sumthin!
Thats when i found the open hole on the top of the tank. I could just epoxy it but i kinda want to find out what went there and fix it properly.

Greg, I have a FSJ that I'm pulling a tank before it goes to the scrap yard. I'll let you know. It's an 87, don't know it's the same...

I hate to bash another site, but CFSJ is pretty useless. IFSJA is ok. Really, none of them seem that good to me.
Google gets you the vendors, pretty slim pickings.

There's a guy on here name Jake. I can't remember his username, but he's got a ton of FSJ at his yard in the Mtns. A LOT of good parts, great prices, great family - but he's crazy (in a good way)!

Sounds like the amp meter bypass. Most of the FSJs used an amp meter that with time and higher output alternators was bad to fail. The dash fire that resuleted was not pretty so a lot of people bypassed it. Some hooked both wires on one stud on the back of the amp meter and some hooked the two wires together.

Jake is a great guy, his username is Tanker, and his wife's username is halftrac

they dont get on here much, but check the CFSJ, he has a ton of stuff, anything and everything you would need

Greg, took the tank out. I'm not really sure where you talking but...
The one out of the 87 has the 2 filler, 3 at the sending unit and then a hose outlet about a 1/3 of the way from the front. It's rubber from the tank to a hardline. I traced it to next to the transfer case where the hardline has a flare on it but nothing was attached. Interesting in the fact that there is another cut hardline right next to it. I guess it's a vent, but I'm not sure. With as much mud the PO(S) was in, there's got to be a ton of shit in the tank.
BTW, I really, really, really hate mud.

Like guffey24 and 93JXJ said, we have a great selection of parts, so if you need anything, pm me and we can go from there. And yea my husband is crazy, but are we not all, those of use who deal with FSJ's?
93JXJ,
What are you sending to the Crusher?

Greg,
I think I might had that plug your need. I have a waggy tank that is bad Which should also have a sending unit if you want.
Also what parts do you need? I have some
I have a complete underdash harnes and guages for a 78 not sure if they are the same might be close.
I would suggest BJ's offroad for new parts.
also look up ZMjeeps for some cool after market stuf
Off course there is www.ifsja.org
and www.cfsjc.com
also in June there is the 2008 Full Size jeep invasion At URE
Sponsors needed ;)

Greg,
Congrats on the Cherokee! I have a couple things to add;
1.) I will echo the "Definately go over to IFSJA.org and join" sentiments. Its the best FSJ specific site period....and some of the vendors offer discounts to members over there.
2.) For your new carpetting I would try BJs-Offroad first, they have just about everything and are good guys to work with. They are also one of the ones that will get you a 15% discount on stuff if you are an IFSJA member but you have to contact them on their web site.
3.) Ammeter bypass = highly recommended and very easy. Just lift one of the wires and attach it to the other lug. No sense torching your rig.
4.) Here are some other sites I have found over the years that offer cool or obscure parts. Might be helpful in a resto.
http://www.bulltear.com/
http://www.oldcarparts.com/
http://performanceamstyle.com
and finally...
5.) This site has tons of eye candy if you are planning a full resto. http://www.grandwagoneer.com/

cool, thanx for all the help.

It sounds like the ammeter bypass is what was done on this thing.

BJs wants 275 for carpet, I just dont know how important that is to me?????

I have been trolling at the fsj forums and the tech is pretty slim it seems.

Ridgerunner, PM sent. I have my truck in raleigh today sooo that spare tank would be sweet, hint hint!

I will be attending the FSJ invasion at URE this year fo' sho'.

I haven't really started driving this jewel yet and I allready love it. with any luck and a fuel tank repair, I will be cruising by tomorrow night.

I ripped mine out a long time ago. Its a little louder than I like.

If you join (its free), you can search. There is a lot of BS that goes on at IFSJA, but the tech is there and is pretty good. You'll find it if you look or ask.
