I'm having some issues with my 22r on Propane. The truck ran amazing last week. This week brought the suck. It all started when I pulled the dizzy in order to change the ps pump with ease. When I put it back in I noticed that it lost alot of power and throttle response. Saturday at Mtn city I still felt the lack of power and we adjusted the timming because the truck was loading up, sputtering and it was no kinda good. After the adjustment it ran awsome for about 20 seconds. It then started doing the same thing again. It would load up to the point of backfiring but once I let of the gas it would idle fine. I pulled over and the truck cut off. We checked the timming again and it was right on. I had a full tank of propane and after checking the lines...I was getting propane before and after the lockout but nothing was comming out of the converter. I thought the converter was bad but now that doesn't seem to be the case. It's my understanding that it takes vacume to open the diaphram..which opens the plunger to release the propane into the mixer supply hose??????This vacume would be created by the motor turning and would have to come from the mixer. I tested the vacume by covering the supply inlet of the mixer with a piece of a plastic bag. It wouldn't even hold the bag to it.:shaking: What could be the cause of the lack of vacume. Could I have damaged something inside the mixer? I wasn't running an air filter:shaking:

How did you check to see if you had pane on both sides of the lock off? W/ or W/o the engine running? I've only been running pane about 7 months and never had any of the components apart so I don't fully understand the inner workings. But sounds like something in the converter. I was told it wasn't to awful expensive to rebuild the things. Maybe Kenneth Stephens (aka 4x4girl) can help or upnover. If you figure it out post up and let us know what the fix was.

The converter I have is made by a smaller company from aussie..... kinda hard to get parts from. I hate to spend the extra money but a new converter would add peice of mind and it will be one that is more popular and easier to get parts for.

I don't know anything about propane, and very little about ignition systems.
But considering your problem started after you pulled and reinstalled the distributor, I would look really hard at that before i started replacing fuel system components. Are you sure the timing is correct? play with that a little more, try changing it a few degrees each direction. Is it vaccuum advance, if so is that hooked back up and functioning properly? I'm sure you looked at all that already, but i would look again at anything you touched when pulling the distributor.
i think it sounds like the advance on the distributor.

The truck was running awsome after the adjustment. It has a vacume timming advance but noone runs it. I will try it thought. I'm gonna pick up some wire for my lights and I will get a bunch of vacume hose while im at it.

Propane likes a lot of advance. SOme people change the springs in the dizzy to make it advance faster/more. I advanced mine till it stumbled, then backed off a little. Since then never touched it.

it just kinda shocked me cause it ran awsome before and then it went to shit.

Did you install the propane system? if not, you probably just have the timing way off.

FALSE! I installed my pane system and was told not to worry about the vacume advance "you'll just lose a little power'' is what I was told. Bull. I was really disappointed at the power loss but Once I fugured out my mixer had a vac/ign port I installed a fitting for my vacume hose and my engine came alive big time. It feels the same as it did when it was running on unleaded. Just make sure the vac port you hook to isn't a constant vacume. Most any port above the throttle plate will advance you timing. If you hook to the tp it is constant. This advice is from experience but not guaranteed.

what specs do I need to look for in a converter? Is hp the only one?

so, what was it? did you get it running?

We got it running and the timmg is set at advanced 13*. I was happy as shit...then I drove out into the yard and as soon as it's under load....It dies like its flooded.

Could the 225 be too much for my gutless 22r?
